Mestre, Venetian Secret Haven
"Under Rated Town, Full of Surprises"
I am so glad we stayed in a hotel in Mestre as this is where the other exciting stuffs happen- shopping, eating & generally where the locals hang out! We were completely surprised as many tourists seem to concentrate on Venice mainland where prices are so high, crowds gather and generally a chaotic place. Yes, it has the iconic St. MArks, the bridges, etc. But once you've seen the tourist spots, you'd think you've done Venice! But you're mistaken if you think that way!
We had a ball eating where the locals eat, especially ourfave pizzas and pastas at reasonable prices. Shopping is just within walking distance to our hotel, also the transport going to Venice islands, the laundry, banks,ATM's etc..Everything is here and more..all the main labels, fashion or otherwise are also at the plaza mall near the central station which is also within walking distance to our hotel- the Centrale Hotel! There's always a market nearby- fresh food & clothes, souvenirs, etc..at reasaonable price especially Italian made goods!
The food, especially early in the morning is a bit hard to get- even if they are just the brioche, they were always freshly made, wherever we went! The coffe is amazing ask my boys- Dave & Tom had the typical Italian espresso in little cups drank standing up so you don't get charged much. If you use a table especially in Venice you pay more too! At Mestre, we truly enjoyed ourselves!
