Unique Quality: The outside is rather unassuming but inside the decor is lovely and the coolness from the air conditional that greets you is very welcome in the summer months. The walls are decorated with lovely antique mirrors, chandeliers and several beautiful masks like this one .

Locanda Conterie - exterior

The hotel is situated in a small alleyway - somewhere in the middle of the two nearest water bus stops - Museo and Navagero amongst a warren of alleyways behind the glass museum.

To find the hotel get off at Museo water bus stop and turn left. Pass the Co-op and turn into the alleyway near there. This leads to a square, turn right and follow the path curving round to Calle delle Conterie - head for the tall chimneys!

Locanda Conterie - Bathroom

Unique Quality: Here's a view of the bathroom - not huge but a complete suite, modern and perfecly adequate. The shower was larger then most -plenty of elbow room!

Locanda Conterie

We booked this hotel - on room basis only - via their web site for a great deal. Its just 75 euro per night for a double room in July and August (90 euros the rest of the year). Only 14 rooms but plans to double the capacity were taking place. Update : now advertised as on bed and breakfast basis.

Being on Murano was great - like living with the locals and its only a ten minute boat ride to Venice itself. We enjoyed 4 nights here and would return again.

Unique Quality: Although not in a particularly pretty setting - its in a backstreet behind the glass factory and has views of a tall fctory chimney rather than a canal view - the rooms themselves are well appointed. Antique furniture, beamed ceilings and glass chandeliers - Murano glass of course! - were teamed with a modern ensuite bathroom - a lovely big walk in shower. Air conditioning is essential for the summer months too. There was a fridge and safe (no charge to use) too.

Although advertised on room only a tea coffee machine was available at breakfast time and croissants were also left out in a breakfast room on the first floor.
