Hotel M14: Pleasant Hotel off the Prata della Valle

We booked this due to location, price and personal recommendations. Our visit was in early June 2011, a few months after the restoration and opening of this 3* hotel

Arriving in Padova from Bergamo by train, we caught the tram to Prata della Valle, then it was just a few metres walk to this hotel from the iconic 'square'. We had booked 2 x single rooms as there was no twin room available (Double, Triple and De-Luxe rooms available)

We were soon checked in and hurried to unpack before rushing out to explore Padova.
My room had a Queen size bed (orthopaedic mattress),with dressing table, storeage space,TV and mini bar. Laminate wooden flooring with dark brown/neutral furnishings and fittings
The quite compact bathroom had a shower, WC and wash basin, hairdryer, towels, loo rolls and complimentary soap and shower gel/shampoo.

Free Wifi in public areas WiFi in certain rooms only

The hotel was quite busy, but felt quite peaceful - we weren't bothered by any noise.

Breakfast wasn't included in the room price. I understand that it is about 5 Euros and is croissants, pastries, breads and jams, honeys, boiled eggs, toast juices and tea/coffee.
There are plenty of cafes/bakeries etc nearby to enjoy breakfast.

I'd certainly stay here again (although next time I'd hope for a larger room). Handy for sightseeing in Padova and further afield. The tram stop is nearby, with trams going to the train station. From here you can reach Venice in around 30 Minutes as well as other locations.

One word of warning - I was due to fly out of Treviso airport that evening, so had plenty of time to get to Venice by train, do some sight seeing then head to the airport.
Gilly however had a mid morning flight out of Marco Polo airport, so set off in good time for the tram to the train station. However, we were unaware that the tram drivers had called a strike (sciopero) for that morning, so Gilly ended up missing her train and instead travelled to Venice MP by taxi - a fare of around 100 Euros.
By the time I set off, the trams were running again and I arrived in Venice just as the Vaporetto workers ended their strike. These strikes/work to rule are planned in advance and usually last only a few hours.
SCIOPIRO SCHEDULE WEB SITE For all planned strikes in Italy

The hotel offers free bike rental - we were only in Padova for less than 24 hours, so we didn't use this facillity

Crowne Plaza Padova: Crowne Plaza Padova

Crowne Plaza Padova is just off the A4 motorway, 30 minutes' drive to Venice Marco Polo Airport. Take the complimentary hotel shuttle to Padova rail station, a perfect place to start your exploration of Padova's historic centre.

A popular conference place

Residenza Belzoni: Student residence

I recently found out about this new university residence in Padova. It is meant for foreign students and teachers but I am sure they will happily give a room to other people if they have availability, especially during summer school break that in Italy is from June to September.
The location is within walking distance to the center, even if out of the city core, it is also served by several buses and it is convenient to reach the Centro Giotto Shopping Mall.
Parking is a little hard in this area but not impossible.
They offer single room for 35 euros and double for 60 euros, breakfast included. It is also possible to have lunch and/or dinner for just 10 euros each meal.
For staying longer than 30 days they have a reduced price of 20 euros a day single room 40 euros double room.
They provide free WiFi internet access, a conference room and a gym.

Sporting Center: Campground with SPA treatments

Montegrotto it is a Thermal resort very popular for mud treatments for bones and skin problems but in the past few years it is starting to do also SPA treatments to attract different customers as well.
For those who like to use their RV or their tent there is a perfect solution, this campground.
It is very close to Padova 10 min train or 30 by bus, 40 min train to Venice and you can also explore the Colli Euganei, gorgeus green hills with lots of restaurants and winery.
The campground has SPA, Thermal pools, restaurant and bars.
The camping area is on grass and has lots of shade.
It is also possible to hire bike or do horse riding.

Hotel M14: Budget friendly with TOP location

This hotel have been totally renewed and opened January 2010. It offer single rooms for 40 euros and double starting from 60. The breakfast is not included but can be purchased for 5 euros more each person. There are also several caffeteria and bakery nearby.
I never stayed there but friends used the structure before the renovation, when it used to be a student's house, so I know the place very well.
Of course now the interiors look much better and the rooms are A LOT nicer!

The location is exceptional! it is few meters from the famous piazza Prato della Valle, few meter from the tram stop and from numerous buses stop. It is 20 minutes ride from the train station and very close to the center, 2 minutes to Prato della Valle, 5 to Basilica del Santo, 20 to the historical center. As Padova center is relatively small you can really walk all over the place from the hotel.
The area is quiet and very safe.

Hotel Junior: Small, but great

We stayed withthe kids in Hotel Junior - a great little family run hotel.
The owners were very friendly, gave lots of good info about the city.
Even though the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the train station - it was reasonably quiet (we all slept well after hard day's sightseeing).
Highly recommended.

The Kettles Abode: Home Sweet Home...

This B&B is located in the rural area of Sacro Cuore, about 15 minutes from the local bus stop. The owners are rather set in their ways, and follow the rules of condo dwelling to the 't. Since buildings in Italy are basically just sand and water, sound travels. You've heard the expression...'You can hear a pin drop', well it's true. No flushing after 11 PM, pick up your chair, don't drag it, keep the volume on your TV low, and remember to conveniently run out of wine before 10 PM when entertaining. And, most importantly, no cooking of cabbage without balcony doors wide open and fan blowing.

This B&B overlooks a corn field, countless family vineyards, and is blessed with automatic wake-up calls daily. Roosters crowing, but with no sense of time. I thought they were early risers ?

Marble floors, stairways, ceramic tile, and complete bath, except shower curtain of course. Even has a funny looking drinking fountain beside the toilet.

Completely air condioned, if windows and doors are left open, and the three fans blowing constantly.

All in all, a fine experience for a couple from northern Canada.
