I'm planning to be in Venice in about 2 weeks. I will have a car at my disposal, so I have decided not to stay in Venice, but in Quarto d'Altino - a town east of Venice, about half an hour away by train.
Does anyone know about the availability of private rooms ("camere") in this town? Has anyone stayed overnight in the town?
Nothing like answering your own question. :)
In the end, I did indeed stay at Quarto D'Altino - 20 km east of Venice (I arrived from Slovenia). However, there are absolutely no rooms (camere, zimmer, sobe, chambres)for rent in this town! Zilch, zero. I can't figure out why, as it is a "natural": The trains run to Venice about every half hour from about 5:30am till about 12:30am the next morning (half hour ride). The cost of a one-way train ticket: only 2.05 euros. There are about 3-4 hotels, though. We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn (right next to the train station). Rather pricey, but you also get what you pay for - no complaints. I highly recommend staying in this town if you plan to go to Venice by car from the east. Parking is free, of course. :)
