Castello Scaligero
by croisbeauty
As in many other towns and villages on Lago di Garda, there is inevitable Castello Scaligero in Torri del Benaco too. Almost the same type of the castles can be found all over the Veneto Region with its very characteristic Ghibellini style ramparts.
In the medieval times, 12th and 13th centuries, Guelfi and Ghibellini were severely rivals supporting the Pope or Emperor. The rivality between this two srteams started in Germany and later on was imported in Italy.
This ancient rivality can be noticed even today in between the Italian towns, for instance, Siena supported the emperor while Firenze the Pope. Antagonism in between this two cities exist even today.

"The caste, as seen from the Hill"
From torri (Along the lake shore) to Albisano (uphill) there is a narrow and winding road, that gives a lot of panoramic places.
Here is the castle, and a few other views, as taken from the balcony of a friend's house.
"Sunset behind the mountains of the Brescia's shore"
This is a sunset in may. I know, sunsets are beautiful everywhere, but ...
"Sun reflections"
.... after i met Sandysmith, i started to reconsider some of my picture taking habits..
"Looking north"
Torri is at the beginning of the narrowing side of the lake... This is looking up north, towards Limone del Garda
"The symbol-tree of the lake: mr. Olive Tree!"
For centuries Olive trees and fish were the only income of the inhabitants of the lake, and they are still everywhere and protected by the law.
And they still make quite a good olive oil... Yummmm!
