Simple Clean Lodging

Now, Al Gazzetino is a no frills approach to staying in Venice. It is centrally located between Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. It is clean and they offer private bathrooms. They have few amenities, but they conviently have a restaurant downstairs.

Some negatives are that there is no air conditioning and no elevator. We got a room on the top floor, three flights of stairs up. They lock the doors at night and if you want out, you have to wait for the doorman. He's not always up and if you want to leave early in the morning, you have to wake him.

I advise you to book with www.venere.com. I found that website offers the best prices for hotels as compared to others that I tried.

Unique Quality: Quaint and clean. A deal considering the high prices in Venice for lodging. It is in a great location.

One thing I learned about Venice was that there are many places that you can stay in Venice that don't have to be near Piazza San Marco or Rialto Bridge. Places near the two major sites usually become booked quickly, so book as early as possible. But Venice is easily walkable, so don't worry if you can't find a place near San Marco or Rialto Bridge.

Good people, good food, not expensive

by ELear about Al Gazzettino

A small place, completely unpretentious, very close to San Marco (on the way to the Rialto), with just a few tables (and plenty of space, for a change), where you can have good food at a reasonable price. (I had risotto, which was excellent.) Friendly people. They speak English. Even Kabir speaks a bit. Risotto - like it should be

Hello:
"Cheap, pretty hotel' and 'Venice' canot co-exist in one sentence! But if you want to try for a monastery/hostel type setting try looking here:

phone: 041-5286797

Hope this helps!

I stayed at the Hotel Al Gazzettino which is a small hotel (pensione) that I thought was pretty reasonable considering it's location. Nothing is "cheap" in Venice!
