Suggestion for San Silvestro dinner

by Mazely

My wife and I use to search for a restaurant on December 31st to have a special dinner. Many restaurants, in many cities around the world (I can remember Firenze two years ago, it was a great cena), offer special menus, with 4 or more courses, for San Silvestro night.
Last year we went to Sevilla with the idea that we would arrange it there... what a dellusion: almost all (or even all) the good restaurants were closed.
Does someone know about any nice restaurant (even hotel restaurant) where we can have special dinner on Dec. 31st? Something special, not more than 80 euros/person, without much fru-fru (I mean, without music - ambient music is ok, of course -, dance; I mean, just a romantic dinner?)

Is it possible and adviceable to reserve by internet?
We are going to Fenice Theater for the Capodanno concert and intend to watch fireworks at the midnight count-down, and this dinner would be in "the middle" of the two events.
Can anyone help us?

Ancora Ciao!

Restaurants tend to be fully booked for last day of the year dinner, so it is probably hard to find anything on the net.
If you are there a couple of days before, i would rather go around, looking for advertising right on the restaurants... so you can have a look too.

After a few minutes search, i found only this: http://www.trattoriasantoma.com/eventi.asp?lng=english

But i don't know the restaurant: search for reviews.. And enjoy!
You can ask at the reception of your hotel, too.

Ciao
Francesco

Grazie, amico.
Unfortunatelly I'll arrive in Venice the very 31st (from Verona...).
Anyway, I'll try to find more about the restaurant you found.
Thinking better, now you gave me an idea: my hotel in Verona belongs to a huge chain, that almost certainly has hotels in Venice... maybe they can arrange it for me, huh? Who knows, it shall work...

Travel Tips for Venice

walk. Only take the water...

by OceanaD

walk. Only take the water buses when you absolutely must get back to your hotel or somewhere else, like a restaurant where you have dinner reservations. Other than that, the city is so beautiful and very pedestrian, taking a leisurely walk will gurantee you to be swept up in Venice's ambiance. There's a new discovery around every corner. I loved taking the water buses at night. With the cold, clear nights and the beautiful lights around centuries old architecture, it was like gliding through some mystical world. It left me with feeling of hope and dreams to come. Romance really does permeate Venice.

The Gothic church of S. Giovanni e Paolo

by Aggeliki

It 's the biggest Gothic church of Venezia, full of sculpted burial tombs of former rulers, the Doges. It situated in “the square of wonders” by Venetians, campo San Zanipolo, Venice’s most monumental square after S. Marco.

Winding Streets and Canals

by TRimer

Wander around and take in the wonderful sights. If you try to use a map you will drive yourself crazy. Remember- you are on an island. How lost can you get? The beauty of the place is what I miss. Photos can only capture so much.

Gas Stations

by grandmaR

Are there gas stations in Venice?

Yes, but you won't see them unless you look for them - they are gas stations (maybe for diesel) for boats right along the edges of the canals. Otherwise none of the vaporettos and water taxis could run, could they?

I am assuming that the police, Coast Guard (photo 3) and the local transportation operators do have their own places to fill up. Also I would bet that some marinas would have fuel available. I don't know about the hotels and private persons. Photo 5 shows an interesting installation which might be a lift or might be something else.
