Loved Al Piave !!!!!!
by A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I took our honeymoon in Venice for 2 weeks during Carnivale. We stayed at hotel Al Piave and LOVED it. What great service and the room was perfect. Had a kitchen and a washing machine! We had windows overlooking the street, breakfast was great every morning and This family run hotel puts the customers first. They carried our luggage up to our room, they always told us the best secret places to eat and which sites we should visit. Ilaria works at the front deask and is such a pleasure, her parents are so sweet and made us feel very welcome. There is even a resident dog named Molly who was rescued from the pound, she loves strawberries so be sure to bring her some! When we return to Venice, we would stay at no other hotel. we HIGHLY reccomend this hotel for all your needs. Close to everything!! -Lisa & Patrick
Wonderful Staff and Hotel

Our family of 5 stayed from 9/4-9/9/2004, we stayed in rooms 210 and 211--Plenty of space and a very large bathroom!!! The rooms were clean and fresh and well maintained throughout our visit. The staff were wonderful, friendly and most accomodating! Breakfast outside in the morning with white linens and a nice choice of breakfast items- this is partly what Venice is all about. (relax and enjoy!)
We would recommend this hotel to any travellers as it was very easy to get to the sights and the price was very reasonable.
Thank you Hotel Al Piave for helping to make our stay in your beautiful city a great sucess!!!
Excellent price, perfect location, outstanding staff

I have been to Venice numerous times - this is the only place I stay. As hotel prices go in Venice, this is an absolute steal. Just steps from Campo S.M. Formosa and less than 5 minutes to Sam Marco Square; this hotel is perfectly located. The staff is quite helpful in all inquiries (don't ask them for assistance in selecting a nice restuarant - I have not liked any of the ones they suggest). The rooms are cozy (small); but, who goes to Venice to spend their time in a hotel room. They are very clean and maintained daily. I love staying there and will continue to stay there on all future trips.
Very nice staff, charming and large rooms, but hard to find

The people that staff the Al Piave (all family?) were very nice and helpful, the breakfast generous and extremely pleasant. We were in the family suite with just three people so had plenty of space! Our only trouble with the Al Piave was that it is a long way from the waterfront for tourists and although we were there for a few days, we always got lost coming and going. It took a long time to get anywhere and was, at times very frustrating.
Good hotel!

I will virtually echo what the previous review stated. We thoroughly enjoyed the family suite for three nights in early October this year. The hotel itself along with the staff are great. The rate for the family suite was significantly cheaper for any triple room at a decent hotel in Venice.
The only drawback is the location. Finding it from the Waterbus stop at San Zaccaria is not easy at all. Although once we found it once we were able to make it back fairly easily. It is about a 10 minute walk to either San Marco or the Rialto bridge so the location is not poor, just could be a little better. Still giving 4 stars!
Would stay here again

Finding this place the first time required patience and assistance from shopkeepers along the way (and Rick Steves' directions weren't much help). But all subsequent trips to/from were easy, and revealed relatively close proximity to the St. Mark's sights, a convenient laundromat and good eating (try the nearby Rick Steves recommendation).
After arriving tired from the night train, we were a little dissappointed our room wasn't ready mid-morning, but the friendly staff happily took our luggage (which they stored not-so-securely in a common hallway) and directed us to a clean restroom where we could wash up.
Later, we were a little surprised to be guided outside and down the street to our room, in what appeared to be an annex of theirs. But the studio (we expected a standard double) was spacious, quiet and clean, with a nice bathroom and view of quaint courtyard.
Breakfast was typical or better for Italy, and the staff was very attentive and friendly during the serving.

Pensione Guerrato vs. Hotel Al Piave ??
by vintage40s
My family has reservations at both these hotels in Venice for late May... I just can't make up my mind in which to stay. Guerrato is 85 euros less a night, but doesn't have a bathroom in the room. However, it might have a better location. I have researched both extensively and can't decide. It's down to good location and comfort (noise level) as they seem to be fairly equal otherwise except for the bathroom thing. If anyone is familiar with both, please help us - Thanks!!!!

October will be my first trip to Italy. I have been doing a lot of research lately, so I might be a little confused by reading too much. Hopefully some other VT members can give you more tips.
Pensione Guerrato is highly recommended by Rick Steve. His staffs stay there 50 nights out of a year. It is west of Rialto Bridge and very close to the bridge and produce market. In terms of Hotel Al Piave, there are a lot of good reviews in tripadvisor forum. It locates in Campo Santa Maria Formosa, south east of the Rialto Bridge. Your decision would depend on if you would like to be in the middle of action. Personally, I need a good night sleep after a full day of tour.
Happy journey!
