by mattwong

Hi everyone, I will be in Venice 2nd week of Aug. If anyone is there around this period let me know, perhaps we can meet for cappucino :-)

Hi! I'd advice that you post this message in VT meetings page - Go to Homepage, then on the right hand side of the page you'll see VT Meetings section. Post your message here, and you might get a better response.

Apparently Italians don't drink Cappucino after breakfast time though!!!

Have A Great trip, and hope you get to meet some new friends in Venice.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Travel Tips for Venice

Miscellaneous Tips...

by Donna_in_India

Meeting New People and Seeing New Places

These tips are based on my last 8 weeks of traveling in Europe/Africa:

1. Buy/pre-order as many museum/attraction tickets online as you can.
2. Ask the taxi fare before taking off in a taxi, especially if it’s late at night or coming from an airport.
3. Charge your camera batteries every night.
4. If you have a Eurail pass and need to make reservation make them in Europe. It’s a lot less expensive.
5. If you’re climbing a few hundred steps up a tower, monument, etc. go only a clear, sunny day.
6. Learn at least Hello, Thank you, and Goodbye in the foreign language of the countries you are visiting.
7. Turn your cell phones off inside churches, museums, etc. If it rings and you must take the call, do it outside!
8. If there’s a running commentary (live or recorded), be polite and be quiet.
9. Dress appropriately and be respectful in churches.
10. If you’re traveling with children, don’t let them disrupt others around you. If they cry or throw a tantrum, take them outside.
11. If you have a complaint, do it reasonably without yelling and cursing.
12. Regarding pictures:
a. If there are signs saying “No pictures”, don’t take pictures! There’s a reason for the signs. Do you really, really need that picture of Mona Lisa to prove you’ve seen it?
b. Learn how to use your camera before the trip. If there are signs saying “No flash”, make sure you know how to use the camera without it.
c. If you see a couple or family with one person taking pictures of the other(s), offer to take a picture of both/all of them. Maybe they’ll reciprocate.
13. Check local holidays. Since many museums and stores will be closed, you’ll need to have other plans for the day. (Most stores throughout much of Europe are closed on Sunday.)
14. Don’t try to do too much. Leave some open time to just explore.
15. You’re on vacation so relax and have a good time!

Venice is a city without...

by Romulo

Venice is a city without strees, avenues, cars and trafic. It's city among the water, between the oceans, small rivers and canals.Venice had inspired a poets and musician, a lot people had love in this city.

Shooting along

by nighthawk

During the boatride I kept on shooting photographs... haha had three camera s going: a simple one with zoom, a slr-camera with ordinary lense and a digital camera for less interesting facts..needed my hubby to hand me the wanted camera and occasionaly a filmroll...pffff lol madness!

Don't get lost

by globetrott

there are plenty of streets going across Venice, but Venice is not built like other cities, with blocks of houses within a pattern of streets....

...where you simply go around a block in order to get into the right street...
. Here in Venice the small streets go in an absolutely unexpected way through town.

Many different streets will lead to the same place, but will take a completely different way.

and there will be only 3 bridges across the Canale Grande ...

There are direction-signs at some places indicating the major directions, and sometimes a bit confusing as well...

Public Restrooms

by msbrandysue

Well, having driven all over Italy I saw a variety of public restrooms. Most of them were acceptable. However, it is completely different from America. There is usually a woman sitting outside of the public restrooms. They are in charge of keeping maintenance of the restrooms, properly stocking them with toiletries, and cleaning up any messes. Therefore, make sure to have some coins with you to tip her. It is customary to tip around 20cents-1euro. Only coins, though, nothing more.

And, in Venice...you even have to put your change into a slot to get into the restroom since there is a bar that will lower when you do. It is one of those bars like when you enter a ride in an amusement park. Just make sure you have some coins at all time!
