We stayed at Hotel Locanda Sturion. This was a nice place. Not too expensive but not much of a view. The only problem was a long flight of stairs with no elevator.
Unique Quality: They did serve breakfast as part of the price and they put mints on your pillow!

Antica Locanda Sturion. I haven't stayed here but it was recommended by a friend as a good place to stay. I've put it here as a reminder so when I do visit Venice I'll have a good place to stay. If you trust my trus in my friend feel free to give this hotel a shot and let me know how it was.

For those who have not visited Venice (esp. Asians), I strongly recommend this heavenly place before it sinks. Coming from the buzziness of East Asia, I find this town truly enchanting...classic Italian setting in true Venetian style...the grandeur of St. Mark's Square, the guile of the monuments and the grace of the gondolas maneuvering along the canals.
We need - my wife and I and our two sons - definitely return to Venice. This time (next december), we're looking for a hotel with rooms:
i. overlooking the Grand Canal
and/or
ii. overlooking the Bacino San Marco
but without extravagant prices to be paid.
Is this possible?

If you don't mind climbing 4 flights of stairs, the Hotel Antica Locanda Sturion is located off the Grand Canal with views near the Rialto Bridge. Located in the San Polo area. You have to climb over the Rialto Bridge with luggage and then up all the stairs, but the rooms are nice and the view of the canal is stunning. Around E150 for two, but they do have a family room.

My husband and I will be staying in the Hotel Galleria in Feb. This hotel is right beside the Accademia bridge. The rates are reasonable. The websit is hotelgalleria.it/presentazioneENG.html This is the english site. I have done a lot of research on this hotel and it seems like a nice one, as I said, we won't be staying there until Feb. If you choose it, let me know what you think....
