Cheap Accomodation in Venice
by paulcantlon about Barca B&B
My girlfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Venice. We stayed in a small hotel, well it was more of a self catering one bedroom apartment that we loved (Barca B&B - Antico Capon Hotel). It was nothing spectacular, but it did the job sufficiently and in comparison to the rest of Venice was a total bargain - 60eur a night). Included for breakfast is a voucher for one of the cafe's on the square which entitles you to a coffee of any sort and a pastry. It is located about a 15 minute stroll from St Marks square, and about a 6 minute walk to the Vaporetta stop Accademia - where you can catch water boats from that take you to St Marks, or to Rialto. It has windows facing the square - Santa Margarheta which is a lively student square with many bars and restaurants nearby. It can get quite rowdy although the venetian blinds and closed windows generally does the trick.
It is also very handy to the Bus station - about 7 minute walk away. Considering that you will be spending 99% of your time in Venice out of your room seeing the sights this should be ideal.
There is a gelaterie at one end of the square which sells the most delicious chocolate gelato. There is also a supermarket which should enable you to stock up on anything that you need.
An Ideal place to stay for those on a budget who are keen on the nightlife of a city.
Great outdoor seating and ambiance in Dorsoduro
by Tuzik about Trattoria Pizzeria Antico Capon
We were exploring Dorsoduro when we came to Campo di S.Margherita. Yes, we were hungry, and tired, but we also wanted this quintessentially Venetian dining experience: antiquated and yet colorful and leisurely atmosphere of a hidden campo that opens up after endless wandering along small and narrow streets. Here it is! Antico Capon Trattoria and Pizzeria in Campo di S.Margherita. We loved everything: outdoor picturesque seating area, our good humored host, and most of all, the food. We all had pizza, we all loved it, but I think my Sicilian style pizza with anchovies was the best of the 4 pizzas we ordered. Seafood is the restaurant's specialty, so anything fishy is going to be a hit! Sicilian style pizza.
Favorite Neighborhoods
by nicolettart
Venice is divided up into sestieri, or neighborhoods. Try to get lost (if you have the time!) --you will know where you are by the piazza you are standing in. Our favorite neighborhoods are Cannaregio, San Polo, Castello, and we always ended up eating at Campo Santa Margherita at Antico Capon for pizza. Don't ask for directions, because you will not find an address by "house number and street". Instead, look for the sestiere or campo (square) to figure out your whereabouts. Oh, and the signs with arrows pointing you to Rialto or San Marco may not help, either. We saw arrows for Rialto pointing left and right--go figure!

Sleeping in Venice
by iloveskiing
I've heard that Venice is very expensive...I will be there for a few days at the beginning of November, can anyone suggest a cheap-yet fairly convenient place to stay? I read mixed reviews about Ostello di Venezia...Thanks.

Check out venere.com....They post a wide price range and only display what is available for the dates you select.

Maybe it is better to book a room in Mestre. There you should find some cheap accomodations.
Mestre is only ten or fifteen minutes by train or bus from Venice.

Check out Hostelz.com. There is quite a list, but if affordability and cleanliness are priorities you might want to check out Hotel Antico Capon, Ostello Santa Fosca, and Istituto Conossiano (a convent for women only). There are a lot of good comments on these three places.

Check www.rentalo.com - Apartment Tonut, it's very nice and it costs 55 euros a day if you are alone or 70 euros daily if there are two people, but only if you stay more then two days. Here is the contact: sabinasmb@yahoo.com.
