Sea, Isles and the sky

If you prefer, you could go to one of the numerous cafés which serve excellent coffee. I recommend that you go from Piazzale Roma or the Santa Lucia station to San Zaccaria landing station by vaporetto. This will take you along the Grande Canale to the lagoon, where you can view the Campanile, the Basilica of San Marco and the Palace of the Doges. From here you can walk through the Piazza and see the Basilica, before continuing to the Rialto by the way of the Mercerie. Then you may wanna look around the Peggy Guggenheim Museum which has an extensive collection of modern art.
The Grand Canal
by JetlagCity
Winding through the multitude of tiny islands that are Venice, the Grand Canal looks like a giant "S" from the air. It seems almost more like a river than like the other canals, since it's so much wider than most. Beautiful frescoed and marbled palaces of Venice's old aristocratic families line both sides of it, along with other famous landmarks like Santa Maria della Salute church, the Accademia, and the Rialto Bridge. Only three bridges cross it, with a fourth soon to come. One of my favorite memories is sitting outside in the fresh air on the #1 vaporetto going slowly down the Grand Canal, taking in the beauty of the water and the architecture all around.

GALLERIA DELL'ACADEMIA
In this wonderful little Museum, in Campo de Carita, just crossing the Accademia Bridge, you will find wonderful masterpieces of Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese. Don't miss Tintoretto's Transport of the Body of St. Mark, which shows St. Mark's body being stolen from Alexandria (the camel in the painting is just incredible).
Your Paid Receipt!

Italy probably leads Europe in the uniform distribution of receipts for every museum you see, every castle you visit and every other possible fee attraction. As often as not, the receipts are designed to be as counterfeit-proof as Italian currency, perhaps even more so.
Fancy clothes

Perhaps your plan was to take small bag with neccessery things and make shopping in Venice. Well, Venice isn't an ideal place for shopping, especially to those who use to go round in between shops.
There are excellent clothing and shoe shops in Venice but scattered all over the town and it is almost impossible to make a comparations between the two items. It looks like a game, "now you see me, now you not." Besides, the prices in Venice are much higher then in other places. Some of the shops are well equiped, some not. When you see what you need, just go in and buy, if not you may have problem to locate where the shop was.
