 | Venice Reviews | Tips 31 - 40 of 870 | | It is a bit unfair to post this pic because this is a very nice place to stay. I have been here twice, once in a single room - share bathroom with one other single room - and once with husband and daughter. Both rooms were en suite that time. Because it used to be a convent and is thus historic they are only allowed to add a certian number of bathrooms, so not all rooms have en suites. It is close to S. Lucia Station and to Piazzale Roma where the buses from the airport arrive and there is a car park. The very car park I have posted a pic of. I paid 50 euro plus breakfast for a single and it was 100 euro plus breakfast for a double. But the breakfast is awful. But then it so often is in Italy. A basket of pre packaged dry toast and sweet cakes, juice, coffee or tea. It is scrupulously clean - and rather quiet and peaceful. Staff is as helpful as they can be with poorish english. Two computers in the foyer available for hire. I was using the computer when four young girls arrived to check in. They asked if there was a safe in the room. Yes, said the receptionist, it is safe in your room. (And it is too because there is staff on all night.) So I butted in and said - Sorry, there is no safe in your room. They were amazed. They wanted to know where they would put their passports. I would have loved to have seen their faces when they found out that there was not only not a safe but no fridge, telly, telephone in the room. Very basic. But what there is is fine, the bathrooms are brand new, beds comfy, a long way from Piazza San Marco, but the vaporetto stop at Piazzale Roma is handy. I think this hotel would be especially good if you were looking for a single rate. That can be hard to find in Italy. Leave a Comment

Although the Locanda does not have a lift, the climb up the stairs to your room really isn't too bad! The hotel staff were extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was very comfortable, with heaps of wardrobe space, and the bathroom was very clean and quite large for Italian standards! Breakfast is served from 8:30am, and you are given your choice of type of breakfast upon checkin (breakfast is included in the cost). VERY, VERY central - situated exactly in between the Rialto Bridge, and San Marco. Christina on Reception was a wonderful email contact - you'll find the staff here are more than helpful!
Be careful when checking out during "high water" - we had to wait until 12:30pm, so that we were actually able to walk out of the front door! The staff didn't mind though - it's a regular occurence for them! Leave a Comment

THE PLACE I STAYED WAS BEAUTIFUL IN THAT IT ADDED TO THE QUIETNESS THAT I WANTED IN VENICE.IT WAS SOUTH OF THE BUSY PARTS OF VENICE AND OFFERED THE FISH MARKETS .. THE FRUIT STANDS AND THE GROCERY STORE THAT I LOVED TO SHOP AT.I AM SO GLAD THAT THAT IS THE LOCATION I STAYED AT ....THE PRICE WAS GREAT FOR ONLY 50 EUROS A NIGHT!!!!!!!AND THE ITALIAN FAMILY WAS SWEET...I WISHED THAT I COULD HAVE USED THE KITCHEN TO COOK THE FISH THAT WAS SOLD NEXT STORE ..BUT ITALIAN WIVES ARE MAYBE NOT TO WELCOMING TO LET OTHER PEOPLE USE THEIR KITCHENS....
EVERY DAY FAMILY LIVING IS WHAT WAS FUN TO WATCH WITH THIS FAMILY..THE LOUDNESS AND THE INTERACTIONS WITH FAMILY AMONGST THEMSELVES WAS INTERESTING... One of the hostels near the station area where I stayed was called Casa Chiumento (Address: Santa Croce 1465, San Giacomo dell'Orio, Corte Scura, Venice. Tel: 041 5240054, Email: chiumento@tin.it) run by a very sweet old lady. The place was very clean and tidy with nice rooms and shared bathroom. Pretty close to the station at a less than ten minutes walk!!! Only euros 22 per person per night!!! Albergo Marin is a small, family run, simple hotel, about five minutes walk from the train station. It's an incredibly affordable option in a very expensive city. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Some have ensuite bathrooms, others have a shower, bidet and sink, with a toilet in the hall. Breakfast is included in the room rate and is a nice bounty of bread, rolls, jams and fresh coffee and orange juice.
What I enjoyed most about the Albergo was it's location. Situated in a neighborhood where Venezians live, it was fun to open the windows in the morning and see the neighbors across the calle, greeting eachother and going about their day to day business. You feel you could reach out and pet the cat on the windowsill across the way. There's a laundramat just down the street. | | | | Bernardi Semenzato: Excellent Stay (especially for the money)
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I stayed at Hotel Bernardi Semenzato during the first few days in July 2004 and it was an excellent choice for our trip. I was traveling in Italy with 3 friends. Our quad room was very nice and quite large, with plenty of room for us all. I should note that we stayed in the Annex, so I'm not sure what the rooms are like in the main section. Our room came with a TV (that we didn't use), a hair dryer, a phone (didn't use), and there was an air conditioner available for an extra fee (didn't use). The bathroom had plenty of room to move around as well. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We got into Venice early on July 1st (around 6am). Although the hotel wasn't even open yet the hotel staff allowed us to enter and store our bags there until we could check in. Although the written directions are vague, take a look at the map they provide on their webpage and you should have no trouble finding it. We came from the train station and didn't take the water bus to the Ca' D'Oro stop, Venice is small enough that it wasn't a far walk (20 minutes), it was particularly nice as no one was up yet and the city was so quiet and peaceful. A wonderful first glance of Venice! The breakfast was ok, a roll w/ jelly/butter, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, and toast. There seemed to be some other type of bread available but we got down there close to the end of the service so we missed that. The hotel is in an excellent location. It was quite easy to get anywhere in the city from where we were. Yet we were not located directly in the touristy area of St. Mark's Square. Defintely an excellent choice for the money. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
The staff was extremely friendly. They even remembered us when we saw them out walking around Venice. This is a nice little place just perfect for the budget-minded traveler in Venice. The owner is so friendly and accommodating. It is clean and safe. Easily accessed by the Vaporetto in a less touristy area of Venice. There are two room types: superior rooms are larger in size, with internal/en-suite bathrooms with shower and are air-conditioned, standard are smaller double rooms, each with their own private (non-shared) bathroom with shower next door to the room. They are airconditioned too. A very modest breakfast consisting of a tray delivered to the room of coffee/tea with croissants, cake and biscuits is included in the price. I would definitely recommend this place to someone traveling to Venice on a budget. It is a great deal.

The Amadeus was my first stay in a European Hotel. I had no idea how small the elevators were going to be! Like little closets. It had a lovely lobby with a very nice sitting area. The rooms were nice with good bathrooms that had tubs AND showers. I soon came to find that this would not always be the case in Italy. Leave a Comment

When deciding to go for an hotel, too many people just look for some accommodation in the Venice *island*. However, Venice has also a ground part, Mestre, which is extremely convenient because it's just 10/15 minutes by train/bus, and because accommodation there is usually a lot cheaper than in Venice island. Of course, you miss a bit of the charm (you'll be sleeping in a "normal" city), but if budget and convenience are an issue, give Venice-Mestre a try.
Mestre in general is a good city also for shopping, because that is where the locals stay and live. More and more "venice island" people are in fact moving to the ground part, just because prices are getting too much "touristic" in the island. Of course, if you want the typical "souvenirs" then the island is the place to go, but if you are also interested in dress, food etc, then Mestre is definitely a place to consider as well. So even if you are sleeping in Venice, possibly consider Mestre for shopping.
