Vaporetta

by jcourtnellsmith

Could someone tell me if the Vaporetti will operate from 22 to 26 December. I realise there may be restricted times. I will be staying near St Mark's Square and I particularly wish to visit Lido de Jesolo during my stay.

I'd be very surprised if there was no service at all, although there may well be restricted times on 24th/25th (as you note).

http://www.actv.it/english/navigazione.php?pagina=tariffe_vaporetto

will give you normal vaporetto timetables.

You could email ACTV here:

http://www.actv.it/english/contattaci.php?pagina=contactus

and ask for specific info about services on 24th/25th.

The vaporetti operate every day of the year. The only restricted service is on Christmas day, but they still operate.

Hi! I've been to Venice for the past 2 Christmases, and I'll be there this year too.
The vaporettos run during this period- sometimes a limited service at night.I found last year, that some of the services to the islands, such as Christmas Day to Burano, where VERY full!

The vaporettos don't run directly to Lido de Jesolo from Venice - The Lido near to Venice is a different place.

To get to LDJ, I think that you might need to get to Punta Sabbioni, by vaporetto no 14 (this is from my somewhat out of date guidebook), then take a bus from Punta Sabbioni, which may connect with the ferry.

Best Wishes,
Sue

Many thanks to those of you who replied.

Looking forward to the trip

of course flooding could always affect/cancel service... otherwise yes as stated the boats will be running.

Travel Tips for Venice

What suprised me the most...

by Katirose

What suprised me the most about my trip to Venice was there are no cars -it's all walking. It was quite nice to not have to look every which way for a zooming taxi or moped.

A highlight of our trip was a visit to the island of Murano. The public boats took us there to visit where Venetian glass is made. For a small fee we were able to watch the centuries old procedure for blowing the glass. After haggling with a shopkeeper, I was able to buy a wedding present that they even shipped for me. Relaxation was in the air, Venice does not have the bustling city feel.

This picture was the view from our pension's window.

Architecture

by fishandchips

I really enjoyed the unique buildings of Venice. Some seemingly squeezed into tight corners to ensure that every possible bit of dry land is used.

All appeared to have the same terracotta roof tops when viewed from the Campanile but up close all had their own distinct form and creation.

Venice - views from water bus #42

by Martin_S.

This is a typical scene in the streets of Venice. A street where there is no soil and all is water. This was the private entrance to a home, the owners come home in their boad, shop from their boat and who knows what all else, just like you do with your car..

MASKS

by draguza

Every February, Venice becomes a living theater as residents and tourists alike take to the canals and streets in fabulous costumes for one of the major events of the year. The tradition of wearing a mask to hide your identity and allow you to misbehave with impunity is ancient, but only in Venice is the tradition kept so alive today.

Packing List

by hirundinella

You'll need flat shoes for pounding the streets.
Wear light weight lose clothing in the summer when it does get very hot and humid. Lots of reels of film ...think of a number and add two...you'll be sorry if you don't!
