Nice Hotel

This hotel was the only silver lining on the ugly cloud of a trip to Venice. The Hotel was very nice, thes service and cleanliness was up to my expectations. Even though a couple of italians got before us (americans ) who were waiting in line to check it.

The breakfast was adequate and service was brisk and quick. Most definitly the hotel was way higher priced than a similar hotel anywhere else around the world..... they suck euros out of you as it is "VENICE"

Unique Quality: One of the best and unique qualities of this hotel is that when I got to the hotel at 8:30 AM in the morning they were able to give me a hotel room 4 hours before the actual check it time.

My hats off to them.

Best Western Mestre

It was a clean hotel but not in the center of Venice. It's 10 min. away from the center and u can take a train of 1 euro. The hotels in Venice are very expensive and old so there is no need to stay in the center. This hotel is in front of the train station, don't hesitate!

venice or mestre ?

if on a budget i would highly recommend staying in the town of mestre on the mainland instead of venice. one, the hotels in venice are very expensive and you have the hassle of loading your luggage into a water bus or water taxi to get to your hotel. the best western hotel bologna is directly across the street from the mestre train station. to get to venice from mestre it takes about 10 minutes via any train in that direction. i never had to wait more than 10 minutes to catch a train to or from venice. the hotel is a business type hotel with clean comfortable rooms. the coffee shop was the most reasonable of any hotel i stayed in italy. a cappichino and croissant was 2 euro ! the only draw back is that mestre is not a great town. enjoy venice and just use the hotel for a safe and reasonable place to sleep. i would not recomend wandering around mestre at night.

Mixture of Budget and Comfort

This hotel is a great location, immediately across the street from the train station on the mainland. Since its not on the Venician marsh, its cost is much lower for its relative accommodations.

Simply park, check in and pick up the 10 minute train to Venice. The only draw back is that if you really want to spend the entire night in Venice, the trains do not operate all night.

One of Venice's best

This 4* hotel is located on Venice mainland and not in the historic island city. It's situated next to a train station (Mestre station, no noise at all that you can hear from the hotel) where there are trains to the island every 10mins and the journey only lasts 5mins for 2$ (last train at 1am). The hotel has recently been refurbished. It has an excellent service, spacious rooms with big bathrooms, all with very modern furnishing.
Check out their web sites for great offers.
I'd really recommend this hotel for its great price, location and quality. You would easily pay twice the price in Venice island where you would get half the room size in a 2* hotel.

Best Western Hotel Bologne

Unique Quality: We opted to stay in Mestre (which is right outside of Venice, across the lagoon) in the Best Western Hotel Bologne. The hotel was quite good. It normally caters to businessmen and women. We were able to get a great rate for our stay. Hotels actually in Venice tend to be very expensive. The Bologne is literally right across the street from the train station. This is good for two reasons: 1. Easy access if you are arriving by train. 2. It has extremely easy access to Venice. Venice's Santa Lucia train station is the next stop on the line, and is only a five-minute ride. From the Santa Lucia station you can easily walk or ride on the Vaporetto to wherever you want to go in no time at all.

Affordable, convenient to trains, larger rooms........

by TripAdvisor Member usflyer

As long as you don't have dreams of seeing Venice from your room window, this is a very adequate and affordable alternative (or if you are doing business in the region but would like to be near Venice on the evenings). The hotel was very affordable (I think around $125) and right across the street from the train station (save yourself a 10 minute wait in line by buying your tickets at the desk). The trains run about every 10 minutes and only take about 15 minutes to get to Venice. The hotel rooms are large for European standards and fairly modern with nice TV selection and a nice bathroom. The breakfast was good with plenty of selections of fruits/cereals/yogurts/pastries. Staff were all adequate (spoke decent English) and helpful when needed.

Only negative was figuring out how to get my electronic key to work in my room (this controls lights and more importantly, air-conditioning). I probably spent 15 minutes before accidentally getting it to work - have them explain it to you before you head to your room.

A nice place

We stayed 4 nights during Carnevale 2006, we had a triple. Everyone we talked to on the staff spoke English, French, German, Spanish. Super friendly people. The hotel is comfortable (not noisy), our room was quite new, bathroom was nicely renovated in contemporary style. The bed wasn't as good as mine at home, but for a hotel it wasn't bad. The breakfast was the best I ever saw anywhere for a freebie. Fruit, cheese, meats, breads, pastries, cereal, yogourt, a wide selection of juices, and you can ask for fresh pressed blood oranges for an extra treat! We ate at the restaurant once for dinner and had some wonderful risotto. The 4 course dinner is 35 euros without drinks. It's expensive, but food is horribly expensive in Venice. There are other food options right outside the hotel including a McDonald's. There is also a pharmacy and various stores.

The hotel is located right by the Mestre train station. It's cheap to get to from the airport (city bus #15) and the train to Venice is only 1 euro. BUT it takes time, probably 1 hour between the hotel and San Marco if you take the train then the vaporetto. This is why I think this hotel is not for people who are only going to be in Venice a short time. But if you have several days it's a good place.

It wasn't always clear what train stopped in Mestre and which didn't so we always asked. I think regional trains all stop at Mestre, it says REG on the announcement board. If you're not comfortable spending a little time figuring out the trains, don't stay there.

Overall I liked this hotel very much. The restaurant was nice, the staff very friendly, good location. I would gladly stay there again. Not super luxurious (it's a BEST WESTERN, but a good one!) but really comfortable.

One warning for people going there with children. I have no idea if this problem exists at other hotels in Italy or not. But in this hotel when you flip through the chanels on the TV, on chanel 25 you get 2 seconds of hard core porno, then a screen that invites you to enter your room number to pay for the porn. 2 seconds isn't long but it's too long when you have a kid with you. There may be ways to block that, we didn't try, we just didn't ever let our kid touch the remote. Good to know, eh?

We are staying at the Best Western Bologna in Mestre. Mestre is just outside the island of Venice. I believe this hotel has more than 50 rooms.

I would not stay in maestre it is too far out of town why spend all that time back and forth.there are plenty of hotels in Venice,is there some reason you need a chain hotel. try searching under www.venere.com I have used them on many of my 6 trips to Italy. RR
