Wonderful hospitality
I have stayed in a number of hotels /guest houses in Venice and I can promise you that you will not be disappointed if staying here. You are made very welcome on arrival and nothing is too much trouble for all the staff. The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from St Mark's Square and approximately 10 minutes walk from the Alilaguna and Vaporetti stops and only 1 very small bridge to negotiate with your suitcase. I believe also that if travelling by private water taxi you can be dropped immediately outside the hotel.
Full breakfasts are available from 08.00 and the staff will cook you anything you require, eg bacon, eggs etc.
In summary, I received wonderful service at this hotel and would heartily recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Venice, whether alone, as a couple or with their family.

Top Venice Hotel
If you want the top of the line hotel a short distance from St. Mark's Square than Hotel Cavalletto is your hotel.
"One of the oldest Hotel in Venice with more then seven centuries of tradition in serving famous people. During its history people like the Duke of Aosta, Richard Strauss and Wiston Churchill stayed at the Cavalletto Doge Orseolo.
The Hotel is located few meters away from St. Mark's Square and with the rooms facing Bacino Orseolo.
This ancient Hotel is equipped with the latest modern facilities but at the meantime you will sleep in classic Venetian rooms.
Cavalletto and Doge Orseolo hotel has 107 rooms in a perfect classic Venetian style, all equipped with air conditioning."
*I did not stay at this hotel. I stumbled upon it while walking around the square.
Unique Quality: They have PLENTY of gondolas ready for your romantic or classic voyage around Venice.

The place to stay in Venice
This was a wonderful place to stay in Venice. The staff is very friendly. They made us feel very welcome and at home, greeting us by name when we left or came back. The room was comfortable and clean. There is no better breakfast around. As part of our tour package we received a free night's stay and breakfast at the Cipriani. Barbara's breakfast was by far the best. The staff is very helpful. GiGi (sorry, not sure of spelling) offered to get our luggage from our previous hotel. Next time I go to Venice, this is where I will stay.
Unique Quality: Best breakfast. Out of the way location but very close to Piazza San Marco. Friendly, helpful staff.

Feels like you are staying with your friends
After a boat ride in the rain and carting our luggage down the quiet alley we were welcomed by Barbara and Gigi. They were wonderful to us with their kind words and wonderful breakfast. The property is decorated in beautiful antiques. It is off of San Marcos square.

a SlowTrave fave.....
Tucked away just off the Piazza, Locando Orseolo is a wonderful retreat after a day of sight seeing and navigating the crowds. Breakfast is made to order, the staff is always friendly and will help with any request. My room looked out onto a small canal. I highly recommend this place.

Where elegance meets cozy... warm and beautiful!
This is it- you have found THE place to stay while in Venice, Locanda Orseolo is perfect.
The locanda itself is both charming and beautifully appointed, in rich shades of red and exposed wood. Beautifully lit with traditional Venetian glass fixtures and such.
The locanda staff is so friendly, so helpful, you'll leave feeling like you've made new friends. The breakfast each morning is delectable... made to order crepes and omlettes, a buffet of cheeses, meats and fruit, freshly made cappucinos and espressos.
The rooms are extremely spacious, especially by Venetial standards... and so elegantly decorated. Ours had a view of a canal...heaven. And the bath is the most modern I've encountered in Europe.
I highly highly recommend this place to you... We will ONLY stay here upon our returns to Venezia.
A double room is priced between 140 euro to 240 euro depending on the time of year.
Unique Quality: Located just a minute's walk off the San Marco arcade.. within a little iron gate- a very discreet location...
EVERYthing about this place is outstanding... location, rooms, staff, breakfast, decor, coziness, elegance....

A Venice hotel gem
Locanda Orseolo is beautiful little bed and breakfast about 50 meters off of St. Mark's Square. The location feels isolated, but your in the middle of many different stops. The hotel is run by a family that goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome; they know who you are when you arrive, they greet you everytime they see you, breakfast is made to order, and the rooms are good-sized, clean and new.
Unique Quality: Located on a back canal. The breakfast room has a half door that opens to the water.

the ONLY place to stay in venice
We have just returned from Venice and stayed at the L O for 2 nights after finding the hotel on this site. You may find plusher hotels, you may find hotels with bigger rooms but I guarantee you will not find a hotel where you will feel more comfortable. Matteo, Barbara, Bruno and Francesco are so warm and welcoming even as you first set foot through the door that within minutes you will feel as if you have known them for a lifetime and you are returning to visit old friends. No other hotel can match this. If you are thinking of visiting Venice this is THE ONLY HOTEL TO BOOK-unless of course my wife and I need your room for our next visit - and we will be returning. Best wishes to Matteo and Barbara for their wedding in January.
Unique Quality: Warmth of welcome, excellent service, central location. Climbing out of the window if you decide to get a taxi ;)

At end of alley turn LEFT, on your right will be the Best Western hotel with gondolas in front of it. Walk STRAIGHT ON and cross the first bridge on your RIGHT. Walk STRAIGHT past the bank on your right. You will be in a small square. Turn LEFT and you will see a metal gate. Go through the gate and you will be in a courtyard. In the TOP LEFT corner is a door with two bears. Open the door and your holiday has just begun.

Easily deserves its #1 rating
We stayed here for two nights in the Spring of 2004. Amazing location, just steps from St. Marks. The owners, Barbara and Matteo, besdies having just stepped off the pages of GQ, are the nicest folks you will meet anywhere in the World. They are perfect concierges to the city. They are also impeccable operators. Matteo made us breakfast at 6 in the morning beacuse of an early flight.
They make the place. I'm exacting about accomodations and this place is terrific!
The rooms are new, clean, and nice. Like most things in Venice, space is a bit tight. Also, be sure to ask for directions. The place is literally a one minute walk to St. Marks, but it's a little confusing.
Without a doubt, this is the place to stay. They will make it so.

Top class hotel
I did not stay in this hotel near the Piazza San Marco. I just passed there and saw on the canal many japanese tourists taking a gondola. And i already see enough japanese staff at my work.
The place was overcrowed - but again no comments on the quality of this hotel.
