Although the Locanda does not have a lift, the climb up the stairs to your room really isn't too bad! The hotel staff were extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was very comfortable, with heaps of wardrobe space, and the bathroom was very clean and quite large for Italian standards! Breakfast is served from 8:30am, and you are given your choice of type of breakfast upon checkin (breakfast is included in the cost). VERY, VERY central - situated exactly in between the Rialto Bridge, and San Marco. Christina on Reception was a wonderful email contact - you'll find the staff here are more than helpful!
Be careful when checking out during "high water" - we had to wait until 12:30pm, so that we were actually able to walk out of the front door! The staff didn't mind though - it's a regular occurence for them!
Although I was not particularly happy with my accomodations, for more than 4 people renting an apartment is a great idea. The cost is less than two hotel rooms and the advantages of relaxing on a sofa in a living room sure beats sitting on the edge of a bed. I made the mistake of not reading every page of the on-line brocure, else I would have known that there was not a lift to the 4th floor apartment we rented. (Remember that in Europe the 1st floor is usually commercial, so the fourth floor is five floors above the street). The lack of maintenance made the room less than acceptable. The kitchen sink was not assembled and the under counter refrigerator was not working.
The fourth floor unit was two story townhouse style, with a double bedroom above. The view from the bedroom is shown in the picture. We thought that the view partially made up for the condition of the unit, but could we have found another unit with a similar view? The price per person below is for five people.
