Venice Restaurants

by wibbins

My wife and I are going to Venice in February to spend our 40th wedding anniversary. We are looking for a restaurant to celebrate this special event on Feb 7....does anyone have nay suggestions for something "out of ther ordinary and special"? Suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

A lot depends upon your budget, but if you're looking to push the boat out, then De Pisis restaurant at the Bauer Hotel is fabulous.
There is also the Locanda Cipriani on the island of Torcello.
Both of these would make great venues for an anniversary, and will need booking in advance.

One of the Vaporettos (grammar?) goes to the island of Torcello which many people visit for the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta or the Church of Santa Fosca, next door.
However there are two restaurants on the path leading from the vaporetto stop to the basilica which are in a lovely setting.
This link mentions one as being very special - (see blurb below) - we walked past there when we visited a coupel of years ago and they looked really nice.
Watch out for transport links and times back though.

"One of the lagoon's most renowned restaurants, the pricey Locanda Cipriani, is in Torcello, where the main canal meets the piazza. If you are prepared to brave the mosquitoes, there are also a couple of cheaper restaurants where you can eat outdoors on Torcello; otherwise hop on the boat back to Burano where there is a bigger choice of restaurants and picnic spots."

Travel Tips for Venice

the peggy guggenheim museum!...

by johntchow

the peggy guggenheim museum! an awesome collection of modern art. the collection is the perfect size, not too small to get bored and not too large to get overwhelmed.

the collection features prominent pieces from rene magritte, joan miro, picasso, dali, as well as many other influential contemporaries. traversing the city by foot and getting lost everywhere. the romance that fills the air thanks to many of those riding in those expensive gondola rides.

The beauty of most Venetian’s buildings is an invitation for light games, enriching the night. Surprisingly, the lights are dimmed, and the illumination is discreet and subtle. Is that intentional, to increase the intimacy of the spaces or… anything else?

I don’t know, but for a badly equipped photography lover, it’s a small frustration.

Campanile of San Marco

by Sharrie

Oh, whether you like it or not, you'll definitely get to see CAMPANILE OF SAN MARCO (EL PARON DE CASA - The Master of the House): Built & reconstructed in 1912, this tower has become the icon for Venice. A replica can even be found at the Epcot Center & another at Las Vegas, the Venetian Hotel & Resort!

Accademia paintings in...

by Pierangelo

Accademia paintings in Venice.Campo della Carità. Housed in the former Convent and Church of Santa Maria della Carità, the Accademia is a cornucopia of painterly riches (about 500 of them) from the 14th through the 18th centuries.Special interest is about the paintings of Vittore Carpaccio, real 'photographs' of Venice's Renaissance.

Packing List

by FinElina

Don't take a bag which weighs too much! The streets and alleys can be very narrow or difficult to walk so take a good baggage with you. A little bag or sachet can be good for passport and money (which you can hide under your shirt) because then the thieves can't rob them. Take good shoes with you because once again the streets of Venice can be difficult to walk and if you want to see a lot, you propably need to walk a lot too.
Then, take the clothes of the weather. If there is a flood time, prepare for it! And in the summer there can be really hot! Take some plaster/bandaid with you if you get hurt. Also suntan cream is good to be there in summer. Well, I can't say anything else; just bring a camera with you, you will use it a lot! And a lot of film too!
