Venice by moonlight
by Skibbe
See Venice for the first time at night. It is less hot and less crowded then and has a special ambience not found there during the day. Sitting outside the Cafe Florian in St. Mark's Square at night, drinking cappucino and listening to music.

visit Basilica San Marco.
It's awesome basilica, built on a Greek cross plan and crowned with five huge domes. It is the third church to stand on this site. The basilica continued to be remodeller over the following centuries. Now we all know it as the chatedral of Venice.
Go up to 4 Horses of St Mark, which are replicas of the gilded bronze originals. From there you have a wonderful wiew to Piazzetta and Pialla San Marco. Driving by boat on Canal Grande. Awsome!
Shopping on the Rialto

It can be a major tourist trap, but this is THE place for buying all kinds of souvenirs to take back home. I was able to buy glass pens with small ink bottles for less than $10. I also found black and white postcards of a fire at La Fenice theater (which keeps burning down!)
In the morning you can buy food at the markets here, which has been here for ages!

The vera first Sunday of September is the big day for Venice, the day when the town itself looks more spectacular then ever. It is the day of Regatta Storica, the spectacular annual event which last coupla of centuries now.
There was mini VT-meetring in that occasion, Sandy came from UK, Maurizio from nearby Caldonazzo and me from Croatia.
Don't forget your camera!

I am afraid this was the end of my tour through Venice. I hoped you enjoyed reading my page :-)
What ever you do, and where ever you go in Italy, you certainly have to take your camera and enough rolls of film. This country has so many photo opportunities, that you will run out of film in no time! There are many picturesque spots in Venice and you will never run out of ideas here of things to take photos off. My far most favourite was the island of Burano, as you probably noticed by the amount of photos I posted on this page of this picturesque part of Venice :-)
