parking near venice

by pariskw

We would like to park our car on the mainland before we go into venice for 3-4 days. ANy suggestions?Saw the posting about parking 4 day near Venice with the suggestions to park near Verona or Padua, Why ther and not the Mestre train station or airport?

There are parking garages at Piazzale Roma and at Tronchetto. Both places have direct access to the vaporetto system into Venice.
There is also parking at the Mestre train station.
I don't think that it's a good idea to park all the way in Verona or Padua.

While parking in Venice (Piazzale Roma) is expensive, it isn't more than you would pay in any major city. I would certainly not stay off the Island just to save a few dollars in parking. In fact, any savings would be taken up by the train costs. I would suggest, however, that you make parking reservations so you won't have to wait in the long parking line. There is a separate entrance for those who have reservations.

On a recent visit to Venice, we parked in Mestre at a 24 hour garage abot 5 minutes from Mestre Station. I've managed to find our invoice and we paid 14 Euros for the first 24 hours, then 12 Euros for each following 24 hours.
The name is Garage Europa and is at Corso Popolo 55.
I've also found their website on the bill:

If you stay at the ASM garage at Piazzale Roma, you will pay double this price

Travel Tips for Venice

Take a long walk about the Square of Saint Mark. If you turn back to the Bazilica, you see an enormous square with thousands of pigeons. They are so tame that take bread from your hands. Feeding pigeons is one of my brightest impressions. I miss the whole Venice.

Here is Banjo and myself posing in front of the Basilici di San Marco at the Piazza San Marco.

After a few hours exploring this fascinating ancient city it was agreed that we all go for a traditional pizza at the Al Vecio Canton.pizzeria/restaurant tucked away in the heart of Venice in one of it's many alleyways. There are many establishments to eat from so there was no particular reason why we chose this one. After enjoying a wonderful meal and taking a few minutes to rest and reflect upon our visit and general views about Venice, we decided to head off and explore some more.

Venice Tip

The first night we were in Venice we headed over to Piazzo San Marco after dinner. When we got there an orchestra was playing and we sat down to listen. We ordered sparkling white wine and enjoyed the beautiful music. When the orchestra took a break my roommate and I went up on stage and got our picture taken with them. We each bought their CD as a momento and they all signed them. This is the best memory I have of Europe and I listen to the CD all the time!

Nicest People

by newsphotogirl

We met the nicest people during our trip to Venice. When we were having trouble figuring out the vaparetto we asked someone who was dressed in a suit reading a newspaper if we had passed our stop. We had. He didn't speak much english but he got off at the next stop with us, talked to the cashier at the ticket booth and the two of them helped us figure out how to get to our hotel. It turned out that the line we wanted wasn't running that day and it would have taken us twice as long at least to figure it out if he had not stopped to help.

Good walking shoes or be crippled!

by ChrsStrl

Whatever you are happy carrying - but be secure if you carry it every day. Good shoes for walking in - lots of steps! Expect any type of weather. Mosquito repellant in summer weather Lots of film! A good credit card - it is not a cheap city to visit!

A mobile phone - it is easy to get separated!
