Away from the crowds
Corte Contarina is hidden away in Castello near the rear of the Naval dockyards(Arsenel), just off the Via Garibaldi. Excellent rooms, but quite a climb if, like us, you are on the 4th floor. Very helpful staff. Continental breakfast 7.30-10.30 (cereals, muesli, yoghurt, croissants/rolls etc.). 3 nights cost £327 for a double room 11/14 May 2004. Completely silent at night, though a delivery trolley woke us at 6.30 one morning, rattling along in the alley below. about 15 minutes walk from St Mark's Square. Not too many restaurants close by, but one recommended by hotel was OK.

24 hours in Venice
Hi, I will be in Venice with my girlfriend for the first time in early Dec for abt 24 hours (spending 1 night). I guess I should expect nothing short of cold weather. But is it likely to flood during that time of the year? Any suggestions as to where to visit in 24 hours to get the best out of the place?
I have shortlisted these hotels and would appreciate any advice on them:
1. Al Gazettino
2. Villa Casanova
3. Dolomiti
4. Corte Contarina
5. Locanda Remedio
6. Residenz Goldini
Btw, the hotels should have heaters during winter right?
RE: 24 hours in Venice
Yes it may flood in December, but it is more likely later in the winter, going into spring. Always a chance though, a few weeks back the waters where quite high and almost follding.
Hotels should certainly have heaters, you can ask them just to confirm when you book. It'll be cold, but less crowds which is always nice.
