Domus Ciliota

VENICE- A centrally locted B&B, resonably priced.

The Istituto Ciliota, founded in 1845, with the Domus was a part of an old Augustinian monastery.The The 51 rooms at the Domus - Calle delle Muneghe - S. Marco, 2976 30124 Venezia (Italia) - were completely restored in 1999.This made for clean, functional but rather antiseptic rooms. Each room has modern furnishings including a bathroom with shower, telephone, Sat TV, air conditioning and mini-bar. The three floors are served by a lift.
Elsewhere - in the dining room and the pleasant patio - one sees ample signs of the past decor.
The people at the front desk were all business, some to the point of being abrupt. However, I chose to stay here because of its central location and the price not the personalities of any particular employee.
Actually, Andrea at the Istituto Ciliota responded to my pre-departure email requesting directions from Santa Lucia train station by providing me with a very complete set of directions and suggestions which proved to be very helpfull.
As mentioned, the Domus is easily reached from the Railway Station & Piazzale Roma by the vaporetto # 1 (stop at San Angelo), It is a few minutes walk from St Mark's Basilica and Piazza San Marco, between Campo San Samuele and Campo San Stefano.
The breakfast choices are somewhat limited but with ample beverages hot or cold the dining/breakfast room is a pleasant place to start the day. When I was there, the temps were a bit cool, too cool for me to fully enjoy the sizable and nicely adorned patio.
My cost per night was 80 euros at the current exhange rate of $1.25 per euro, that ould amount ot $100.00 USD per night. There website site shows off season rates € 60/65 for singles and € 80/90 for doubles.
Would I stay there again? Yes! The cleanliness and the convenience of the location cannot be beat at these prices.

Unique Quality: Location, location and at a reasonable price for the city of Venice. Piazza San Marco and the basilica are an easy pleasant walk. The Grand Canal is also nearby to transport you ito the old harbor or to the train stations or just for the fun of it.
