i booked Duodo through wotif.com and was really pleasantly surprised. The Hotel is close to San Marcos square, yet is down a little alley way, so is away from any noise. The hotel rooms are relatively large (for Europe - they are large), and the service was excellent. I really enjoyed staying here.
if they offer the trip to Murano, take it up, the glass factories are something else.

Stayed for three nights in August 2004 booked superior (extra cost but special offer)room thru Hotel Connect. Not that hard to find but you need to follow instructions. Very central since it is near St Marks. It is not a huge place but it is a fine building The room we had was beautifully decorated. Not oversized but big enough according to Venice expectations. I thought that the breakfast was more than adequate served in a room near reception. The service and the attention to detail by the concierge were excellent. These guys also had a sense of humour. There has been some criticism of this hotel elsewhere but I felt that we got good value for money and really enjoyed our stay.
Free internet connection. Central position. Beautiful, quiet and unassuming hotel at a reasonable price but look for good deals with Expedia and Hotel Connect.
There are more costly Hotels but at a mid range price this would be hard to beat.

Duodo Palace Hotel from the waters edge

The hotel is very comfortable, views delightful, staff were charming and helpful. The breakfasts were plentiful, although they don't serve food other than breakfast they can recommend some interesting local restaurants.
Avoid the free trip from the hotel to Murano better to get a ferry, and do the tour yourself. Burano is worth the 45min crossing.
