lodging question again
I read thru the whole venice forum and email about 10-15 places that supposedly are reasonable. I still can't find anything under 150euro/nite. We are2 adults, 2 children (age9) with grandma visiting venice at the end of Oct for 4 nites. I called Foresteria venezia and they are already fully booked. Anthingelse I could try???

Why not look for a room in Mestre. It is not far from Venice. Perhaps there prices are lower tan in Venice.

How are you finding out about prices? I couldn't believe the prices you were quoting and had a look at a few hotel reservation sites, and yes - the prices seem to be astronomical!! I think either the Euro has really drove hoteliers mad or else the reservation companies are making a handsome commission. I am used to booking hotels in Venice for about €100 for a double room in a 3 star hotel, calling the hotel directly. Try emailing some of your selected hotels directly, just to compare. Good luck in your search.

First to say, if you want something definitely cheaper, follow the tip already given: stay in Mestre. It's a great solution.
In any case, I don't know which contacts you have to find hotels, but try to check if there are other solutions visiting sites of the Tourist Office and Hotel Association:

i concur - venice is expensive. there are some alternatives such as maestre. you could also look at a place such al lido de jesolo, and take the boat to venice.
consider taking the train, and the main line runs to places such as verona, which is a 3 hour ride. there is more to do - while venice is beautiful, you can do it in a day or a day and a half.
why not try to get more out of your trip?

The Hotel nationale was very reasonable and quite nice. We stayed there in February and it was VERY pleasant indeed. I believe the price was well under the 100 Euro and it is close by the main rail station
