When in Venice... say bye to your beloved euros!
"Italy is expensive"... repeat that 100 times to avoid surprises when you get there! After an awful experience in Firenze where we tried to save some money, we decided there'd be no more misery on the trip and stayed at this place here.
I've learned to expect people to be smart and malicious always, when it comes to charging money. The guy at the front desk DID try to charge 30euros more than the price which was informed to us in the train station, but a little knowledge in civil law was enough for me to talk the man out of it.
Unique Quality: Then we stayed at this 3-star hotel, a little better than what I expect this category to be, in Europe. It was pretty good: spacious, newly refurbished, clean, offering fancy envelopes/paper just like at the big hotels, glass-bottle shampoo and everything.

Accomodation
I and my husband plan to stay in Venice for 3 days (arrive by train and leave by plane). We note that the accomodation is very expensive. We wish to find some moderate price accomodation near the tourist attraction. How about Hotel Gardena or Carlton Capri? Does anyone have idea of their locations?

are you tied to those hotels because I know a great hittle place we have stayed in several times only minutes from the metro and Mariahilferstrasse

I am not tied to any hotels. I just want some convenient location and not expensive hotels. I do welcome any suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Try Hotel Do Pozzi. Very nice rooms and walking distance to everything. We stayed there last year and loved it. Prices were reasonable for Venice.
