More about Hotel Becher
Deserves its very high ranking in Venice
by TripAdvisor Member Grandchemin
During our recent trip in Tuscany with a detour in Venice, my wife and I stayed four nights at the Hotel Becher. We travel extensively in Americas and Europe. We always chose carefully our hotels and are rather meticulous in our choices as our expectations are high. Upon arrival at the Hotel we were showed to our room which had a view on the adjacent canal as requested by email. The room area was decorated in the Venice style and had quite a comfortable size and the bathroom had new and modern equipment. All met the standard expected in Europe and were very clean. The Hotel is spotless and beautiful. The Hotel Managers, Anna and Paolo are extremely helpful and you can feel that they want you to have the best possible time in Venice, so had we! Breakfast is good with a selection mainly of croissant, yogurt, fresh fruits and cheese. The hotel location is perfect; about 5 minutes walk to the San Marco Place and ten minutes to the Rialto Bridge. At night the hotel surrounding grounds are very quiet, the air conditioning unit is efficient and also quiet. The small size of this hotel makes you fell you are in a Palazzo rather than a big 100 room hotel. In general Hotel Becher is an excellent choice. During our stay in Italy this hotel was the least expensive and compare very well to the five stars Hotels that we had stayed in Sienna and Firenze, among which a Small Leading Hotel of the world facility. It certainly deserves its very high ranking in Venice. It is without any hesitation that we highly recommend Hotel Becher and whish to return one day.
Location, Location

Just returned from 3 wonderful nights in Venice. Our stay was made even more memorable by staying at the Hotel Becher. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided this would suit us for a quick getaway from Dubai. We were upgraded to a canal view room where I could watch and hear the gondola's gliding down the canal and hear the singers belting out italian songs in the evening. It really was an amazing experience. Room was small but it was what we expected for a typical family run hotel but our bathroom was spacious and the hotel was immaculately clean. Our hosts Anna and Paolo helped make our stay memorable by organising our gondola to be waiting for us at their private jetty and for our taxi transfer back to the airport from the hotel jetty. When doing a weekender in venice it really is worth paying the extra to for a private water taxi direct to the hotel (it only took us 30 minutes to the airport versus one and three quarters hours by ferry).
The location was the important choice for this hotel as we were right outside La Fenice Theatre with a beautiful restaurant to enjoy attached to the theatre. It was only a 5 minute stroll to St Mark's Square and easy access by foot to all the famous sights including the Rialto Bridge.
Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and cant wait to return.
Excellent choice

Hotel Becher is an excellent choice for a stay in Venice. Great location, situated roughly halfway between St Marks and the Rialto bridge, right next to Le Fenice theatre. It has its own canal landing if you decide to arrive or depart by private river taxi (100-110 euros, a stylish and quick - 25 mins - way to get to and from the airport but obviously more expensive than taking the Alilaguna boat - 12 euros, 1 hr or 1hr 20 mins depending on stops, normally twice an hour). As with many Venice hotels it might be difficult to find, but the website has good directions and a map and we came straight there. If walking make sure that your bags can be wheeled/carried comfortably as its a 6-7 min walk from the public ferry stop. The hotel is smartly decorated and everything seemed very clean. Our room - 203 - faced the canal (originally none available but the hotel secured us one when there was a cancellation, at no extra room charge). The room was very nicely decorated in a traditional style, but small - just about big enough for us but some Americans or people that have a lot of luggage would have found it too small. Comfy double bed, enough hanging space but limited drawer space. Bathroom very compact but had a decent-sized bath, a good shower with plenty of pressure and they'd even squeezed in a bidet next to the loo. Again, for us this was fine but not for people who want a lot of space. Facing the small canal can be a little noisy in the mornings but that's a small price to pay for seeing and hearing the gondolas and other river traffic float past - you know that you are in Venice. Reception was again very compact with a small seating area (perhaps 4 chairs) with several newspapers including the Herald Tribune in english. Breakfast is the only meal served, in a small room (enough for about 10 people at 5 double tables, although there is an overflow area upstairs) next to reception. We always got a table without a problem. Self serve buffet but a waiter brings you your coffee (excellent capuccinos), tea or whatever. Buffet is limited but satisfactory in quality and quantity: tinned apricots, fresh fruit, yoghourts, ham, mortadella, cheese, packets of muesli or cornflakes, crackers, croisssants filled with marmalade(!), the usual rather dry Italian white rolls. After 4 days we were getting a bit tired of it - would be better if they changed it around a little. Reception staff friendly and helpful although be aware that the older lady, whilst extremely pleasant and helpful, speaks english better than she comprehends it so make sure that you've been understood properly if its something important. They'll happily do the usual concierge stuff like booking restaurants, 'free' Murano trips, concert tickets etc. Overall the Becher is a comfortable, friendly place to stay. It does indeed feel like you are in an old palazzo, you never have to walk far to the sights, its decent value. The major negative is space: everything is just (for us at any rate) the right side of 'compact', but some may feel too cramped.
Cozy and charming

Very nice, small hotel in Venice. Staff spoke good and English and were very helpful. The room my wife and I were in was quite small, but adequate for the two of us. Very nice bathroom, the shower was tiny (barely room enough for one) but the shower head was probably the best I've ever had in Europe. Nice TV with a couple of English news channels (CNN and Sky) if I remember. Probably a 10 minute walk with luggage, but not too bad. Overall, I'd say it was a very good value in Venice for 150 euro a night.
Excellent Location, Gr8 management
by TripAdvisor Member veneci
Very well located hotel, very clean, close to San Marco and Piazza Rialto, Accademia bridge is also not very far.
They have their own boat dock hence, getting to the hotel by water taxi was the best way, and the most fun way to arrive in Venice.
Anna and Paulo, were very warm and welcoming, we have 3 kids ages 10, 7 and 6 months and they were very welcome.
Rooms were decent size, small compared to US standards though. Room and bathroom was very clean and comfortable. Shower was a bit cramped up .
Breakfast was continental, cereals, fruits, croissants, yogurt, cheese etc.
Overall excellent value for money, would surely go back to the same hotel if we went to venice again.
Very nice and friendly hotel

We stayed here for 3 nights in June 2007. The hotel is perfectly situated at the center of Venice. It is a walking distance to St. Mark Square and has access to water Taxi. The room is very nice, clean, big (for European standard) and elegant. The owners (Anna and her husband), and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They served great breakfast, cappuccino made to order, fresh fruits, tasty cold meats, croissants. My son (aka "The salami boy") loved the salami served at the hotel. I would strongly recommend this hotel for family stay. We definitely will stay here again.
Great hotel

Great hotel!
The staff were friendly and very helpful (including making handy suggestions regarding travelling around & what trips we might like to take).
When we got the the hotel, we fund out we had the room ovelooking the canal which had a small balcony - it was a great room - with a great view watching the gondala's going past!
The hotel was also a great location, 5 minute walk from St Marks square, making it easy to get around.
Breakfast gave a reasonable selection and this was enough to get us on our way.
We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend this hotel and venice to others!
Perfect reasonably priced (for Venice) Becher
by TripAdvisor Member ramo
What is reasonable these days for a hotel in Venice or even any major European city for that matter? If location, cleanliness, resonable amenities (A/C, internet, good showers, etc.) is what you are looking for, then you will not get much change from EUR200. As such the Becher fits the bill being perfectly located (with gondoliers serenading us so close outside our window that we could nearly touch their hats!), has direct canal access (for in our opinion the requisite water taxi ride from the airport), A/C (although not required during this time of year), internet (at a minimal cost) and decent showers. The only blot was our attempt to ask for a later check out (1pm vs. 11am) which was flatly denied. Upon coming to the hotel at 1pm our room was yet to be cleaned and a little though from the management would have been able to accomodate our request.
Great hotel; book early to get a canal room
by TripAdvisor Member Luckyfour
We stayed in the canal room as well. Staff were great and very helpful. We left very early in the morning and they packed some food and juice for us to take with us. It was really lovely to hear the gondolas go by. We were really glad to stay there rather on the main canal where it would have been too noisy. Should I return to Venice, I would stay there again!
wonderful and charming hotel!

Couldn't ask for a more perfect hotel in Venice. Location was just right , minutes walking to San Marco and across the bridge from the house where Mozart stayed when he was 15. It is also a fairly new hotel which shows by its flawless and absolutely clean room we were in. I am sure you can have a room with a view of the water but you don't need it because the room we were in was decorated in such a lovely way. Unlike other hotels we stayed in in Italy, our room here had a bath tub! The workers were respectful and the front desk was extremely accommodating, pleasant and delightful. This hotel was a hidden gem on a little street.
