Travel Tips for Venice

Go on the canal ride.

by shiran_d

Seen the real old Bridge call the the Ponte Rialto,
This was Marco Pole's work of art.
Only kind in the world.

When he sailed toward fare east aiming for Japan, he came ashore in Chian, That's where he learned about this bridge.
The Chinese called it the Rainbow Bridge.
Here is a photo, enjoy it.
Any one who loves shopping this is one of the bridges you can happliy enjoy shopping.

Gondolas

by dvideira

The gondolas are, undoubtedly, the most typical symbol of the city. Before being used exclusivelly for tourism as today, they were born as private means of transport for rich people but due to their manoeuverability they became being employed for transporting people.
By tradition, they have their dimensions, colour and appearance strictly regulated.

Via Garibaldi

by sandysmith

This is a fairly wide avenue by Venice standards and has several cafes and shops here so a pleasant place to wander. The heat at midday was really boucing off the road though it was really hot and escaping to the nearby Giardini for some shade was a good option. The end of the street leads into a canal and lovely areas of Castello

Learn some Italian

by newsphotogirl

It has been said on VT time and time again. Learn a few words. Although most people in Venice speak at least some english, it really doesn't take much effort to learn some italian and it's the polite thing to do. And you're more likely to get better service.

Thank You: Grazie
You're Welcome: Prego
Please: Per favore
Do you speak English?: Parla Inglese?
One, Two (as in one espresso or a table for two): Uno, Due
A table for two: Un tavalo per due
Do you have: Avete

You can also get free podcasts of italian language lessons on iTunes. Another helpful website was http://babelfish.yahoo.com/. You type in the sentence in your language and it will translate to your language of choice. I used it when I needed to email hotels with questions about rooms or cab fare. The only problem is it's a literal translation which doesn't always work well. I would send both the english and translated version.

Packing List

by mdraper

AMSTERDAM -- If you are going through Amsterdam, make sure you put clean underwear in each of your checked bags ... they are going to lose at least one of them. In actuality, they don't lose them; they just don't put them on the same plane you're on. (We lost two of three on our way to Venice and one of three on our way home.) Carry on your toothbrush, etc. Family Travel
