Grand canal accommadation

by eathermum

Is it possible to find accommadation on the grand canal venice with views and small balcony for about 125 euro, if so where. I realise this might be an impossible request Cheers Chris

I don't have a specific recommendation, but I think you should be aware that accom. on the Grand Canal is very noisy and smelly. The traffic noise is unbelievable and starts very early in the morning, and the fumes are quite bad.
If this doesn't bother you, it's true that the view is wonderful.

Can't remember the name of the place, but if you google venice b&b there is a cheaper one on the grand canal, however the rooms looked very small and it was a shared bathroom. Everything in Venice is sooooooo expensive.

Agree that Venice is indeed expensive. I personally would not consider a room overlooking the Canal Grande to be worth the premium (for the reasons given above). There are far nicer (and quieter) places to base yourselves.

www.venere.com is by far the best site for Italian accommodation, imo. It's reliable, has honest guest reviews and is used by many VT-ers. It lists b&bs as well as hotels, with good mapping, so you should find something to suit.

Hi Chris, What time of year are you planning visiting, and for how long?
As you probably know accommodation in Venice is usually quite expensive. High season, Carnivale etc prices soar accordingly.

Even if you get a hotel on the Grand Canal, you might not be guaranteed a room with a view! (which would be a shame to spend an excess amount for a view of a wall etc)

I agree with leics re. Venere.com (They're my first choice when I'm considering accommodation)- you can check out the area/ price range and reports from others who've stayed at the hotel etc.(you can also find B&B's/ Town Houses/Self-catering properties)and you don't pay anything until you leave. I also use Booking.com, Hostelz, Hostelworld etc.

You might find that it's better to stay somewhere with a view over a 'lesser canal' in Venice, with 'more for your money'.

I hope that this is of some use, please feel free to contact me for any more information.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Extremely unlikely I was 80m behind the waterfront and paid 135E. for a single on a small court. More like 350 and up for all you want. Prices can be found on the Internet but it takes time

We agree with all previous posts - renting room in Venice, on the Grand Canal is not good idea. There are many other less expensive places with more spectacular view.

Travel Tips for Venice

by chrissyalex

Take a GONDOLA RIDE. It is touristy....but it is definately part of the Venice experience that should not be missed! It really is romantic...even of you are sharing the gondola with 4 other passengers! The art of building gondolas is a traditional art form ...passed on from generation to generation. 'squeranolo' is the Italian word for gondolabuilder. The wooden parts on a gondola have to be wet and heated to bend into the appropriate form.

Piazza di San Marco

One of the places everyones visits in Venice. Beautiful buildings all around and probably a very nice cathedral from inside, didn´t enter because of kilometres of queues. but the place is beautiful...........

Details from Venice

by croisbeauty

After year or two on VT, I have improved my skill and technique in taking the pictures and it is undoubtely. Morover, when strolling around I have learned to open my eyes because there are lots of hidden things to be discovered in places we are visiting. For the first time I've discovered it in my own hometown.
I am regularly visiting Venice, more then thirty years now, and I realy know this place very well but, most of the things you can see of this pictures I've discovered only after joining to VT. Hope that most of you have the same positive experience.

Venice Art Culture

by sandysmith

You can suffer culture overload in Venice with all the art museums and masterpieces in the chuches. I'm not a big art lover and would much rather be in the open air than stuck inside a gallery or dark church. Many paintings are by Bellini (mainly radiant Madonnas), Titian, Canaletto and Tintoretto to name just a few. By chance we stumbled across the house where Tintoretto had lived and I was more interested in the old architecture here than his paintings I'm afraid.

PIGEON RACING

by Onedragon

EVERY SO OFTEN ONE WATCHED THE PIGEONS RACING EACH OTHER FOR WHAT EVER THE REASON THEY HAD....MOST OF THE TIME FOR AN AWARD THAT SUMMED UP SOME TYPE OF FOOD. QUICK ON THE FEET ..IN THIS CASE STAYING ON THE GROUND AS THESE TWO FINALISTS HAD PROVEN..LEAVING THE OTHER PARTICPANTS IN THE DUST.
