Comfort, Location & Venetian charm for a 24yr old female..
I'm trying to decide between four hotels in Venice ...
My choices are:
Rialto
Residence Palazzo Selvadego
Gabrielli Sandwirth
Manin
My priority is comfort and location (in that order) ...
Would appreciate any help you can provide, expert travelers and fans of Venice!
Actually, if anyone here would know of any nice options for 4* hotels in Venice at below $175 after tax [as much below as possible would be nice], I'd appreciate it greatly ...

Intresting one!!! Hotel Rialto is in the centre of the hustle and bustle of the Rialto Bridge. It can be noisy in this part of town but it is easy to get around Venice from this part of town. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it 6 for comfort. The rooms can be a bit sparsely furnished. The Residence Palazzo Selvadego is a nice hotel but its situation is not as good. It's on the Grand Canal but it's quite a walk if you want to get to San Polo, Santa Croce, or Canneregio districts., but its pretty good for St.Marks Square. It is very comfortable. The Gabrielli Sandwirth is right behind St.Marks Square, and very well located for just about everything. Again, vry comfortable.
For my money, he best of the lot is Hotel Manin. Right on the Grand Canal with its own gardens and all the rooms ae excellent(10 out of 10).

I travelled to Venice with my family looking for comfort and charm as well, which I found in a hotel 10 kilometers outside the city of Venice, in Mestre from where I had good transport options to reach Venice in around 20/30 minutes. I stayed at the Laguna Palace in Mestre. Check it out at the following link or at my Venice pages. Cost around 130 Euros.

Personally I would avoid staying anywhere directly on the Grand Canal, especially if it's close to a vaporetto stop, because the boats run all night and make a huge amount of noise as they bump into the pier and open their gates. Imagine lorries crashing into your garden every half hour and you get the picture.
Ok, maybe they aren't that loud, but considering there is no other traffic to disturb the place they are highly disruptive. But a particularly nice hotel should have double-glazing and air con to keep the peace?
