Hotel La Fenice et Des Artiste
Great Location. Ridiculously overpriced, at least my single room IS. I paid 170 euros, the room is TINY, the shower was not working OK (I had floods, constatly, Alta Aqua without leaving your room!) last two nights they did not even bother to clean my room. There was no shampoo ther, either. Breakfast was very modest, to say the least, very slow service (only one waitress, so of course it was slow) The receptionist was NOT friendly and here is my last encounter with her Iher name is Eliana) night before I leave, I asked her to hlep me get a porter to carry my luggage to vaporetto stop (5-6 short blocks from the hotel) and she told me it's impossible, the porters work only after 9 a.m. and since I need it for 7 a.m. I will never get a porter. She strongly suggested that I called water taxi (and pay 160 euros!), they will meet me at the lobby and carry my luggage. I refused. I thought it cannot be TRUE and it WAS NOT. Next morning, I called the reception and talked with another person there, they called a porter and I had my luggage carried to the vaporetto for 16 euros. I will never come back to this hotel and don't recommend it to anybody.

Hotel Recomendation
I will be in Venice from the 2nd till the 6th with my wife... Any hotel recomendations... dont want something too expensive...
Any comments on the Residenza Ca'sa San Marco or Hotel Al Piave? which is better?

Hi,
I stayed at the Ca SAn Marco last year. It was excellent. The residence is housed in two buildings side by side. A couple of the rooms are larger and have nice views of the canal. The entire residence has been completely remodeled/restored(historic building) and is of high standard. My room was large with beautiful furniture and a large bathroom with granite and marble and a jacuzzi tub.
The location is excellent being near the Rialto Bridge vaporetto stop and walkway to SAn Marco square. Even though this is a busy area the residence is on a side street and very quiet. The breakfast was good with the traditional Italian breakfast with rolls,fruit,yoghurt,etc
I have stayed in the past in a 3star hotel near this residence and paid twice the price of the San Marco and had an older and smaller room. Now, I look for a residence or townsuite to stay in. They are a better bargain.
The narrow,little street which the San Marco is located on is difficult to find the first time, so just ask a shopkeeper for directions. When you see the street you won't beleive that you walked right past it.

I would highly (highly, highly) recommend the Ca' del Dose. See www.cadeldose.com for details. I stayed there for a month last fall and another in the fall of 2004. Wonderful small B&B owned by a lovely couple. Great location and rates. If you go, please tell Anna and Marco that Marisa di San Francisco says hello and sends many baci!
