The Ponte dei Tre Archi - with its unusual 3-arched span - is a popular target for artists. It was built around 1688 and you can find it in in the Cannargio area where it joins the lagoon.
Ponte dei Tre Archi – the only Venetian three-arched bridge, created by Andrea Tirali, was built in 1688 and restored in 1794. Tirali's project for this bridge was based on one of Andrea Palladio, rejected for Ponte Rialto.
Even if you don’t have the time to stroll through Canaregio’s backstreets, a tour with vaporetto No. 41/42 or 51/52 will give you an idea of the lightness that lies over this area. These boats go along the Canale di Canaregio, which is the biggest canale of the city (well, apart from Canal Grande of course). As soon as the boat turns into the canale, the first bridge is already a nice view: Ponte delle Guglie (photo 3). The name derives from the four obeliscs in each corner (la guglia – spire). Note also the many grimacing stoneheads on the bridge’s side. The boat has a stop here, so you can easily hop off, wander around and take the next boat to continue driving along the canal. This would also be the boat stop if you want to visit Venezia’s Ghetto (see what Sandy and Christine wrote about the Ghetto area). The next stop is at Ponte dei Tre Archi (photo 1) – the only bridge in Venezia with 3 arches. In late afternoon it also makes up for good photos.
From here, you can either continue your trip on the boat around the northwest of Canaregio (although it is not the most beautiful area, quite rugged in fact) or back to Canal Grande. On the other hand, the next boat stop will be St. Alvise or Madonna dell’Orto, which saves some walking, if you intend to visit these churches.
To follow my walks, you should take the boat back into Canal Grande and get off at Ca D’Oro and then into Strada Nova (westwards).

Hi,
My sister and I are planning a trip to visit our friend in Madrid in late October and wanted to look into visiting Italy. We wondered if
1. Anyone had tips on places to stay in Venice, afordable but nice.
2. Any other destinations in Italy that we should consider before vencie?
3. Any tips on traveling in europe, this is our first trip to europe, we are both in our twenties so we don't mine going the cheaper route but definately want it to be nice.
Thanks,
Katie
The cheapest hotels in Venice are near the train station. As Craic said, most hotels - even the simple ones are quite expensive. Perhaps sharing a room will help you out.. the Flora is very nice but I'm sure their prices have risen since I was there.
Hi
The Ostello Hostel in Venice seems like a good deal - http://www.santafosca.com.
You really must visit Rome - it is wonderful. Plenty of hostels to pick from. The Beehive gets a good rap in these forums.
The Amalfi coast is beautiful. For Amalfi accommodation this guy gave himself a plug - http://www.willyspubamalfi.com. In Positano we stayed at the Hostel Brikette - http://www.brikette.com. Wonderful views. Others suggest staying in Sorrento. It's not the Amalfi coast but handy to it, Capri, Pompeii etc.
Have fun.
Thanks everyone your help I will check into those ideas!!
Hi there,
Staying on Lido is cheaper than San Marco, as well. The last time I was in Venice we stayed at Hotel Rigel on Lido and it was very easy to catch a ferry to San Marco for a couple dollars.
We're staying at Hotel Tre Archi for 65 Euros in November, it sounds fantastic. www.hoteltrearchi.com
Happy travels,

Hi there,
I know someone else posted this question a while back but I cannot find it in the forum search and of course, didn't save it in my "Do It Yourself Guide" section. AH!
We're staying at the Tre Archi Hotel on San Marco for several nights but need to make our last night near the train station so we can make our 6:30am flight out of Venice.
Is the Plaza Hotel in Mestre the best bet? Or is there another hotel that is near the train station we'd take back to the airport?
Thanks!
-Dawn
6:30 flight? I would stay out late and then camp at the airport.
I second Francesco, do not waist ur last night in Venice by sleeping, sleep in the plain on a way back home.
Hey I am not francesco even though I hope to meet him in Italy one day. Ellen here.
OK FrancescA, scusami.
OOPS!!!
Hi there,
Thanks for your replies. When is the last train or bus from Venice to the int'l airport?
