More about Locanda Ca Zose

Good Spot

by TripAdvisor Member Justin_Magro

I stayed at Locanda Ca Zose in Venice for four nights in November. The Hotel is located in a quite area of the Dorsoduro away from the maddening crowds of San Marco. It is five minutes from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Salute Vaporetto Stop and the Santa Marie Della Salute Church. I was here for the Fiesta Della Salute held every November 21st. This is the best place to stay to view the feast with the procession of candles and all that goes on. A few steps away they build a temporary floating bridge for the Fiesta procession over the Grand Canal providing a unique view of Venice and an easier walk to San Marco. The Hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff is kind and spoke Italian, French, English and some German. The breakfast is quite adequate with very good cappuccino. Over all if you want to stay in Venice and feel like a traveler instead of a typical tourist this is a good choice.

Fours Stars of Charm

by TripAdvisor Member khaos101

My husband and I stayed four nights a Ca'Zose in early October. It is a charming hotel in an quiet area, yet within a 5 minute walk to two different vaparetto stops. The hotel owner, Valentina, is extremely helpful, when we had to make a very early departure. And the hotel breakfast has quite an array of options. Something to please everyone. All in all it gets four stars for charm.

Wonderful Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member emforster

We stayed at the Ca' Zose for a total of 10 days in early October 2005 and were thoroughly satisfied. The location in a lovely, quiet neighborhood in Dorsoduro is perfect - close to the Peggy Guggenheim, the Accademia, Ca' Rezzonico and several excellent restaurants (especially the Taverna San Trovaso). The traghetto to San Marco is just one minute away. (It's the same that Katherine Hepburn rode several times in the 1955 film Summertime, shot at locations near the hotel). Or the vaporetto stop is just two minutes away. There are weekly concerts at the nearby Salute church. Our room was charming with a brand new and ultra-clean bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and the two sisters who run the place could not have been more friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. - V&J, Brooklyn, NY.

Little hotel, big sensations

Beautiful, comfortable, nice workers and very good breakfast to prepare a hard-working journals. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. All the hotel is new, including the bathrooms

Great value! Great location! Great welcome!

by TripAdvisor Member GEH

If - like me - your way of finding a hotel is to start at #1 on Trip Advisor and go down the list until you find something that you can afford, then the Ca’ Zose could be where you call off the search!

Booking – I booked directly with the hotel and was given a full description of the room. E-mails answered very quickly, no deposit requested and the bill was exactly as per the tariff on their website.

Staff – There is always someone friendly and helpful on the Reception desk. Often Graziella or Valentina, the sisters who run the hotel.

Location – Peaceful area of the city, but just one stop on the Vaporetto from St Mark’s Square (or take the fun option of a “Traghetto” crossing by Gondola for just 50c – but check operating times). Salute waterbus stop – 2 mins’ walk, with just one small bridge to carry your suitcase over. Peggy Guggenheim Museum – 2 mins. Accademia Museum – 5 mins. The waterside restaurants on the Zattere promenade – not ideal in November, but must be great in summer - can be reached in about 10 minutes.

I was travelling on my own but felt very comfortable walking around the area, even after dark. However, make sure you carry a detailed street map as it is very easy to get disoriented, particularly around the Guggenheim.

Room – not big, but everything you need. Spotlessly clean – bathroom like a show flat! Bedroom is carpeted. New double-glazed window. There is an adjustable heater/air conditioner in the bedroom, and a ladder-type radiator kept the bathroom and towels warm. Shower cubicle very small, with awkward corner opening – I had to turn sideways to get my shoulders through! - but good water pressure and plenty of hot water. TV with Italian channels. Minibar fridge. Safe in wardrobe – key free of charge from Reception. No kettle provided (apparently not many hotels in Venice do). Some noise from next room but not a problem.

Breakfast – continental, but good selection. Fresh croissants and pastries. Cappuccino a very popular option! Quick and friendly service until 10.00 am.

(In case you were wondering, no, I don’t work for this hotel…!)

It just remains for me to thank the previous Trip Advisor reviewers for this great recommendation!

PS: A little tip… if you are travelling off-season and want to avoid the “acqua alta” floods, look up the tide tables on the comune venezia website. Or check your diary and book as close to a half moon as possible.

Fabulous New Year

by A TripAdvisor Member

Located in the quiet Dorsudoro, full of galleries and a few shops and bars and only 10 - 15 minutes walk from San Marco it was exquisite. Very warm, helpful and friendly without being intrusive or pushy the sisters and staff who run it were extremely caring and helpful especially when one of us was too ill to leave the hotel for a couple of days. Most likely will stay there again on our certain return to Venice.

Small, cosy and friendly

by A TripAdvisor Member

A delightfully well-kept hotel in a quiet area, but only a short walk from San Marco and just 2 mins walk from the Grand Canal and Salute vaporetto stop. We went to Venice to get engaged and although she didn't know it at the time, Graziella was very generous in giving us a larger room, a suite really, for our three night stay. A bright and cheerful breakfast room with food served by an equally bright proprietor (one of two sisters) was a great way to start the day in this most delightful of cities. We will return for a short break as soon as we can and possibly, have our honeymoon there. In summary - unbeatable value.

A wonderful small hotel in Venice - great location

by A TripAdvisor Member

Ca'Zose is one of those special places that you feel so lucky to find in Venice. It is a fairly new, intimate hotel in a very old building, decorated in Venetian style antiques. The owners are two dynamic and charming women, Valentina and Graziella who are personable, fluent in English, knowledgeable, helpful, and couldn't have been more delightful. The location is spectacular, in a wonderful area right on a small canal, very close to the Peggy Guggenheim museum, and a short vaporetto ride across the water to Piazza San Marco. You get the feeling of being in your own home, but have the amenities of a hotel. We recommend it highly and would stay there any time! Penny and Earl

GOOD LOCATION... BUT

by TripAdvisor Member scoob2henley

our canal view room, turned out to be a building site view. as far as we could work it it was the only canal closed in ALL of venice !!! Anyway - good value - good location - clean rooms - breakfast ok - usual Venice perfume (Sewer smells) hits you every now and again probably caused by the works outside the front door !

Great service and atmosphere

by TripAdvisor Member Mirabel

I stayed here with my daughter for three nights and we had a lovely time. Valentina was very welcoming and helpful, and seems to have a sixth sense for what people need.

We paid 70 EU for our clean and pleasant room with a good-sized bathroom and nice furnishings. There was a good breakfast included. It was freezing outside but we were very warm, and could control the room temperature as we liked.

The location was good - we walked easily to San Marco, and could hop on a traghetto to get back quickly if we wanted to. There were nice shops nearby, and also a supermarket within walking distance.

I will come back here because it is good value and has such friendly atmosphere.

Festival Santa Maria della Salute

by henry14

Picking up on the previous questions re the Festival; does the influx of visitors to Santa Maria affect local transport? I know about the temporary bridge, but are the waterbuses also extra busy with folk travelling to/from that direction?

We're in Venice next week, 21st is our last day, leaving for the airport (bus to Treviso) around 6pm and we dont want to be stuck in a waterbus queue somewhere when we should be on the airport bus! Do I need to factor in extra time for delays that day for getting back to Pizzale Roma?

thanks.

Re: Festival Santa Maria della Salute

by leics

Haven't visited at that time, but I think you've answered your own question. An 'influx of visitors' will inevitably affect the vaporetti to some extent (not least because that is the only transport available, other than walking or taking an expensive water-taxi).

I'd allow extra time to get to P.Roma, personally.

Re: Festival Santa Maria della Salute

by henry14

thanks, I agree that is the sensible approach and based on previous visits in busy months I can see that an additional 20,000 visitors would make waterbus travel hectic. But I hear that Venice is less crowded in November, so I was thinking (hoping!) maybe it evens it out a bit?

Re: Festival Santa Maria della Salute

by leics

I visited at the beginning of April. It wasn't stuffed full, but there were certainly loads of visitors around (and cruises dropping off their passengers for the day, which added to the throng).

I think Venice, like London and Rome, is pretty busy for most of the year.

When we were there two years ago we took the vaparetto down to Salute from the train station to get there for the 10 am mass, and it was quite crowded. They all were. However, I would think it would not be so bad later on in the day when the masses and festivities are over. Giving yourself a little extra time wouldn't hurt though. You should also factor in the weather that day. I was trying to get down to San Marco on a day with very heavy rain and finally gave up because they were all jammed. Obviously, more people will take the vaparetti than walk on bad days.

Thanks. Thats a good point about the rain making the boats busier, although the weather forecast is looking ok for Wed-Fri while we're there(up to now!). I guess we will have to guage this one on the day but plan to return a little earlier (and if we are early we'll just have to pass an hour in the hotel bar watching the world float by....not the worst end to a trip!)
