Hire a Boat
Venice is not just a city of stone, if you hire a boat (although you need to be very specific about the boat you want in a city surrounded by water!!) you can cruise through areas of nature for hours ( if you could afford it )

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a ferry that runs between Venice and Ravenna. If there is, does it run on a daily basis? Thanks
I do not think there is such a ferry, I'm afraid.
www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html will give you train times, details and fares in English. Journey time around 2.5 to 3.5 hours, according to train. Standard one-way fare 22.40 euro.

Here in the forground you can see one of the many taxi stands along the Grand Canal. You just step off of dry land and put yourself in the hands of the skipper. That little brown boat in the forfront of the picture had a small sign in English "Taxi"..
Don't miss the chance to tour the Basilica di San Marco. This beautiful mosaic above the principle entrance is just a preview of the beauty within. The walls and floors are covered with mosaic tile work.
This is obviously not a modern-day custom, or at least I didn't see any fighting going on while I was in Venice. But back in the days, it wasn't uncommon for duals to be fought on one of the city's numerous bridges. These bridges were known as "Ponti dei Pugni", which would translate as "Fist Bridges". Perhaps the most famous one can be found near Campo San Barnaba, in the Dorsoduro area. On both sides of the bridge, you'll see a footprint where rivals used to take their stand before the fight would begin. These fights would often end with one of the two adversaries falling into the canal and thus losing his pride along with the fight, but death also wasn't unheard of. To avoid further casualties, the Republic of Venice banned these fights in 1705, but golden footprints can still be found on some bridges in different parts of the city.
Size does matter, so here small is best, if you have to walk back to the station you do not want to drag a huge suitcase. Depending on the time of the year choose your clothing but do not forget good walking shoes. You will walk miles... Bring lots of films if you're visiting for the first time. After 3 days all windows look the same but on your first day you will be tempted to take a picture of every single one of them... I can assure you...
