Left Bank Hotel 2 Star

We were placed here for one night because our room was not available in the B&B we picked (Venere.com) This was okay, we go with the flow. I wouldn't have changed a thing because we spent 2 nights on the Lido and were able to stay in an entirely different area. This Hotel is located one block from Madonna della Salute. The Dorsoduro Sesterie is not as crowded with tourists as the Right Bank and you can really mingle with the locals in this area. St Marks Square is 1 or 2 stops away.
We were put in the one star annex with sparse accomodations, but no complaints from us. We liked the area and were only in the room to sleep. Breakfast was the usual and was served in the restaurant.
Internet is available in the lobby.

Off the usual path

by athena10x

Planning my second trip back to Venice and would like to consider staying in the Dorsoduro area. San Marco was filled with so many tourist that I didn't know which way to turn. Are there some nice clean and hip places to stay in that area of town? Maybe a hop, skip and a jump from the vaporetto landing or the bridge? I'm planning on arriving April 29th from Milano.
Mille Grazie, to all of VT's out there.

Peace

Hotel Messner gets good reviews as a basic accommodation in Venice from Rick Steves. Beware, though, they have two areas to stay in - one if noisier than the other (backpacker types stay there) if this matters to you.

I've had good experience dealing with the staff of Ca' del Console - little hidden gem with reasonable price, near Accademia museum and therefore the bridge and vaporetto stop - and it's a traditional, well-appointed "palace" like decor. I don't know your budget but Messner would probably be about Euro 85-100 per night and Ca' del Console just a bit more. Give them both a try and see what they offer you.

Hope this helps! Ciao! LL
