A fabulous welcome from very helpful staff
by A TripAdvisor Member
Tripadvisor featured a poor review of the staff at this hotel and we were a it nervous about taking an elderly friend there. What we found could not have been more different from the 'rude staff' reported by a previous visitor. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly - always ready to provide information or help, and smiling and charming. They went out of their way to make sure that everyone in our party was looked after. Maybe the previous reviewer found the hotel on a bad day? We'll definitely be going back!
Charming!!!

This hotel has a classic charm to it. It's decor is traditional, but retains with it a taste of the past. Our room was huge - even by American standards. Breakfast was great and plentiful - the cappuccino is the best in Italy! The location cannot be beat. It is right on the main walkway along the end of the Grand Canal and is a 5 minute walk from the St. Mark's Square. The only negative is the obvious kickbacks the hotel gets from local restaurants. Whenever we asked for suggestions, the hotel pulled out brochures of upscale eateries! When asked about other places to eat (even other expensive restaurants), we were met with negative responses and immediately redirected to the restaurants they had advertisments for. Regardless, we really liked this hotel and would suggest it to anybody wanting fine lodging in Venice.
The Very Best!!

What can I say? This hotel was the absolute perfect hotel in one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
The hotel was outstanding. We had the best room in the hotle, Room 409. It was on the top floor, with slanted ceilings, a mini sitting area, a huge marble bathroom, and a balcony to remember. The view over the Grand Canal and the surrounding area was one we will always treasure.
Although the restuarant was a little pricey, even by Venice standards, the food was very good. We were treated to a bottle of champagne from the manager.
The location was excellent, only a few blocks from St. Marks. The staff was very professional, friendly and helpful. When we were first concerned about the lack of a shower, they allowed us to see another room and make a choice. The room was also ready 2 hours before check-in time.
I will stay there again, in a heartbeat! Thanks for a great stay and wonderful memories!!

Jump on a water taxi from the train station and head down the Grand Canal. You will end up at the door to the Metropole with a very good staff waiting to help you. We loved the location and the benches out in front on the Canal. The desk help was very nice and accomodating. Our first room wreaked of cigarette smoke and they kindly put us in a junior suite. Although we really didn't spend much time in our room, it was fabulous!
Brilliant and classy hotel!!!!

We loved this friendly and well turned out hotel.
Booked it on the basis of the reviews found on this site and found it to be even better than expected - we had a Junior suite for a good price and the hotel restaurant was the best place that we dined in over our three night stay - both outside and in - better even than the Gritti Palace food.
Wouldn't worry too much about having a room with a view as the rooms are smaller and windows at side don't give a panoramic view - for same price it's much better to swap for a suite which is what we ended up doing.
A great way to spend a romantic weekend - we'll be back for sure!!!

The airport is in Mestre; not far from Venice.
Catch a bus outside the airport; arrive to the bus station of Mestre and take the first train to Venice.
In around 20 minutes you'll be there.

There is a direct bus from the Marco Polo Airport to very near the Venice Central Station (this bus stop is also a terminus). This takes about 30-40 minutes at most but this is a direct bus. The cost is 1 Euro if I remember correctly since I took this bus to the Marco Polo Airport from near the Venice Central Station last September.
