Decent Accommodation - Great Location
Would this be a hotel or a Guesthouse?? We got a reasonable price on a room with pvt bathroom from venere.com and we were very happy with it. The room was small and the shower had a painfully strong jet of water, but the location was great and the staff very friendly.
I recommend this hotel to anyone who can get it at a reasonable price.

Romantic Hotel...
Hi,
I'm thinking of spending a week-end in Venice at the end of September - celebrating a special anniversary - and I would like to stay at a romantic, venetian-style hotel or B & B.
On the other hand, I don't want to spend a fortune!!!!
Could you suggest any hotel with really nice rooms? (I'm thinking damask-covered walls etc, nothing modern)

I am sure you are aware that there are some fabulous hotels in Venice but at fabulous prices. My wife and I have stayed in Venice many times, and we have found one of the nicest, modestly priced hotelsis the Olimpia near Piazzale Roma. Thet do have a web site that you may want to check, but it is right on a canal and only a few minutes walk to Piazza San Marco. It is decorated in the fashion you describe with murano glass chandeliers etc.
As it happens, we will be there ourselves from 28th September until 1st October
with our son and daughter in law, but are staying on St.Elena. Would be appy to meet for a drink perhaps.

Thanks for your reply - I will have a look at the website. I've been seeing the websites of probably all the hotels in Venice! I know what I want, but I'm not sure whether I'm going to find it at a reasonable price... I know what Venice hotels are like!
Nothing's confirmed re whether we're actually going yet, but if we do, it will be exactly on the same dates as you! We'll keep in touch.

There is a very nice 3 star hotel off Campo San Maurizio called the Locanda San
Maurizio. We have stayed there once, two years ago and it is decorated exactly tin the manner you require.
The problem is I dont think they have web site(perhaps someone else knows if they do or dont) but you could try getting a phone number through directory enquiries. Do not get this confused with the Residencia Hotel San Maurizio
which is a far more expensive place.
You could, of course, stay at the same hotel as us. It is on St.Elena which is part of the main island but a bit of a walk. The hotel is The Best Western St.Elena and they DO have their own wbsite.

I suggest the Hotel Canaletto, because it seems to meet your description. It is very central, small and cozy, furnished in Venetian style (a local version of rococo). The website has pictures and is very informative: http://www.hotelcanaletto.com
My brother was there and was very happy with the service and everything.

Thank you both for your suggestions... I'm off to have a look at them. I'm compiling a long list of hotels I like... Some I can afford, most I can't! But until I've actually booked the flight, I won't be sure that we're going. Hope so, though!
Not sure I want to stay on St. Elena, but nothing's decided yet, so anything may happen.
