Lovely Valentine at the hotel San Moise, Venice, Italy
by A TripAdvisor Member
At Valentine 2005 (Feb. 13 - Feb. 15) we spent 3 days in Venice, Italy and stayed 2 nights in the Hotel San Moise (***).
This is certainly a hotel that I can recommend to all those who want to combine all the best comfort of a modern hotel and the atmosphere of a 16th century Venetian Palace.
A young and gracious staff was available to help us fully enjoy our stay in Venice with suggestions and tips.
The hotel faces the Canal San Moisè and is just a few steps away from the prestigious Via XXII Marzo with the more important boutiques of the city.
The Napoleonic wing of the Saint Mark's Square is only 200 m away.
Our room had everything to recreate the opulence that was typical of the Venetian Republic : precious stuccoed and marble-powdered walls, Venetian-style furnishings, elaborate draperies and Murano-glass chandeliers. The windows offered a wonderful view of the Canal of San Moisé and the possibility to enjoy the gondolas as they glide along the water.
The beauty of Venice, the comfort of the San Moise Hotel, the sun and the deep-blue sky made this really a trip to remember !
One of the Only Non-Smoking Hotels in Venice
by deecat about Hotel Violino d'Oro
Hotel Violino d'Oro used to be "Palazzo Barozzi" before it was renovated and made into a delightful Venetian Hotel. It is situated in a typical small Venetial square, and it is only a few steps fromSt. Mark's Square. This newly renovated hotel offers for its guests:
1. Private shower and/or bath
2. Individually controlled air conditioning
3. Mini-bar
4. Satellite T.V.
5. Breakfast
6. View over the Rio San Moise
7. Venetian style furnishings
8. Entire hotel is NON SMOKING
Our room was a corner room with four huge windows with a lovely view of Rio San Moise.
It was spacious and had a fantastic bathroom with Shower. The front desk personnel were friendly and quite helpful. We were attracted to the Hotel Violino d'Oro because of its location and that it was entirely non smoking. In addition, we saw a recommendation in Karen Brown's book, which we use frequently.
The gondolas were stationed right near the hotel; we were surrounded by elegant shops; St. Mark's Square was just steps away.
How great is all that!

Hotel San Moise is a wonderful quiet hotel 5 mins walk from Piazza San Marco...5 mins from Water Taxi stop to/from Airport..5 mins from Vaparetto stop for Grand Canal...great location. We had a great room with a small balcony overlooking a busy Gondola canal route..ask for this room when booking...beautiful breakfast room actually below the level of the canal..you can sit and watch the Gondoliers float by..very good breakfast buffet...friendly helpful staff..will give you all the info on good restaurants etc...perfect place for a great time in Venice. If you are departing Venice late in the day, you can leave your bags in the Hotel after checking out...
What A Find!

The Hotel San Moise is wonderfully located and charming. It is a small hotel, quiet, and placed on the bend of a canal favored by gondoliers. The rooms facing the canal are very spacious and filled with antiques. The staff is very attentative and helpful, especially the superb manager, Gianluca Serra who not only showed us to our room, but also gave advice and booked us into a few excellent restaurants within easy walking distance ( and offered caution when we brought up a couple of restaurants we had seen nearby ). As is not unexpected in a small hotel, there are no dinning room nor lounge facilities. The more than adequate continental breakfast is served one level below the main level, and there is an outdoor patio. Location: about a five minute walk from the San Marco stop on the Grand Canal, down a side street and about midway between the Piazza San Marco and the Academia Museum. We definitely plan to return.
Warmth in the snow

We have just returned fom a long weekend trip to Venice, staying at the Hotel San Moise. As a group of six ladies, we booked 3 twin-bedded rooms, which turned out to be small but beautifully kept, very clean and warm, lit with Murano glass chandeliers as promised and with spotless en-suite shower-rooms.
Breakfast was buffet-style and copious, with cereals, pastries, ham, cheese, yoghurts and fruit as well as toast and jam available. (There were cooked items available too, but they were not kept very hot by the hotplate). Various teas and coffee were also available, as was fresh chilled water (still and sparkling!) from a self-service machine.
The staff we met were extremely helpful, especially the Manager, who speaks excellent English, and who was still there to welcome us and help open a rogue suitcase padlock at midnight on our first night, after our flight had been diverted to Trieste (100 miles away) due to the unexpected snow. The following afternoon, which was very cold, he also opened up the breakfast area for us and served us tea and coffee without charge.
The San Moise is very central, being 5 minutes' walk from the Piazza San Marco and its Vaporetto stop. It is quite easy to find. I would recommend it.
A Beautiful Little Hotel

If you value discreet firstclass service, a clean environment and an atmosphere of courteous warmth and genuine concern for your comfort then the San Moise Hotel should be your choice.
As part of a planned romantic few days I chose Venice and ebooked a double room with canal view.
The hotel put us in Room 105. It was love at first sight. Venetian red walls, white moulded ceiling, Elegantly furnished and with a large very comfortable bed with pillows to match.
French windows opened onto a tiny balcony decked out with geraniums and from 5pm onwards you could look down from here and watch the gondolas drift by - or lie on the bed and listen to the sounds and songs of gondoliers. This was not intrusive, it was fun and some fine voices were about.
Bathroom was compact, spotless and combined bath and shower had an effective non slip surface. Beautifully laundered towels completed this suite.
Finally we were utterly charmed by the outrageous confection of venetian glass that lit the room. Chandelier par excellance!
Breakfast items were of good quality and fresh. Breakfast in our room on one day was quick to arrive and coffee piping hot.
The hotel reception staff were the finest I have encountered. Help and guidance given in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. Porterage carried out willingly and happily.
The quality of three star hotels differs widely. To reach the exceptionally high standard of the San Moise Hotel is regrettably very rare. The London Savoy - a five star rating - visited last year could learn all its lessons in customer care from the San Moise Hotel.
We are very grateful to all the people who run the San Moise Hotel. Their contribution to our enjoyment of their gracious and beautiful city is really appreciated.

Local San Moise area restaurant?
by deecat
Will be in Venice the nights of October 16,17,18,19, and we are staying in a hotel in the San Moise area.
Wondering if anyone knows of a GREAT LOCAL restaurant in or near that area? Thanks.
