We only had one night in Venice so our priority was to be as close to San Marco Square as possible so that we could see most of the major sites as quickly as possible because we only had a morning to get a feel of Venice.
This hotel was perfect - a little pricier than we would normally pay but the location is magic, about 2 minutes' walk from the water taxi by the San Marco Piazza and Harry's Bar.
Last November I think it cost us about 100 GB pounds for the room.
The Hotel is very old and charming, dating back to the 18th century and the rooms are decorated in the 'Venetian' style which takes a bit of getting used to but once your eye is tuned in, it is lovely.
The breakfast room is very charming. You have to leave the hotel and go around the corner and enter the breakfast room through a gorgeous courtyard. There are views of the waterways from the breakfast room.
Our bedroom had windows on both sides with a view of the canals on one side and a roof-top view on the other side. The room was quite small but very pleasant and well-furnished and a small camp bed had been provided for the daughter. The shower room was immaculate and newly renovated.
Directions: Once you're off the water taxi at the main San Marco stop (Vallaresso), head up past Harry's bar and turn left. Go over a small bridge and turn right - look out for a sign-post to the Hotel. It will take about 2 minutes.
