Simple little hotel?
by Dave_Disco
Off to venice with my girlfriend just after christmas and been looking through all the questions here. Everyones been very helpful already, with what to do etc.. I just wanted a little more advice on where to stay.
I am looking for just a simple place to stay, reasonably cheap (save some money for those delicious meals), and was wondering if anyone had a few more ideas?
A few have been suggested:
Roominvenice, Calle S. Antonio
Alloggi Agli Artisti
hotel aido mori
albergo san samuele
Any Ideas?
Thanks

I stayed in a really nice B&B called Leon Ca' D'Oro.
You can read about it on my Venice page.

Hi
Get a ticket for the Vaporetta (water Taxis) you can get one that lasts 3 days (not expensive). Most places can be walked to, We went in January it can be cold so take plenty of warm clothing.
Don’t get dragged off to visit the glass factories, unless you really want to buy some over priced glassware.
It is a beautiful and romantic place with some super small restaurants.
Hope you have a good time

Hi
My boyfriend and I stayed in a Hotel called Alloggi Barbaria, about 10 mins walk from St Marks Square. Was clean and simple. I booked through www.venere.com and I think the price was 120 euros per night, but may be cheaper now. For further info please look at my Venice page.
Have a lovely time,
Claire

Maybe it is better to book an acomodation in Mestre. There you could find some cheap hotels.
Search on "www.venere.com".
Mestre is reachable from Venice by bus or by train. The journey takes around 10 or 15 minutes.

Travel Tips for Venice
Walking "on" water
by Malecka
ok, in my opinion the charm of this place is definitely its unique looks: little bridges everywhere, narrow streets and nice houses, with flowers. And it feels nice walking through all those streets and then ending up on some small piazza.
San Marco's Square is something you mustn't miss but everybody knows about it. Usually there's a huge line of people waiting to go to the Basilica.
The true spirit, if you ask me, is exactly in those little streets and piazzas where you can relax for a moment. Feeding pigeons on St Marco's square OF COURSE... YOU MUST DO THAT...
Hope the day is sunny!!!!
Piazza San Marco

..is of Piazza San Marco devoid of people, before the boatloads of tourists arrive at 9-10 o'clock. Picture yourself standing in the middle of the empty square in the early morning light. Breathtaking! On another occasion it began to rain, and I loved watching the people scatter as the huge raindrops fell, then seeing the piazza all wet!

One of the best things about Venice, is just walking around and letting yourself get lost. The street plan is this: there is no recognizable plan! So without an incredibly detailed map, you will find yourself disoriented. These yellow signs will help guide you in the general direction of some of the more important locations (i.e. san marco, accademia, piazzale rome, etc).
Italians are fabulous!
by sue_stone
I love the Italians and their way of life - they have the right idea. Fabulous sense of style, love their food and wine, the best coffee in Europe.
And their pets even get to travel in style! Look at this little fellow that I shared the train with on my way from Venice to Verona.
I snuck this picture when his owner popped to the bathroom.
Woof!
Packing List
by Giulia_ua
If you are going to visit Venice in summer - there is quite warm weather. Try to take comfortable clothes, and especially shoes.
FOR WOMEN ONLY: NO HIGH HEELS!!!
Sometimes in the evening, it might be cool, so a jacket may be useful.
