I will be in Venice, September 6 for the Regatta Storica, Can anyone recommend a restaurant on the Grand Canal for lunch that will take reservations that we can watch the festivities.
When does the parade of ships start ?

its not a holiday but the Venice Film Festival is running 2 September to 12 September, so maybe a week to avoid?

We plan on going to Cipriani's latter in the week. I tried the Gritti and they had not finalized their plans for the Regatta.
I was able to book a table at the Grand Terrace at the Hotel Monaco.
I told you it was raining when we got to Venice, but rain has never gotten me down. We still went exploring and eventually had a cup of coffee at this restaurant just to warm up. It was lovely sitting there and just taking in Venice and all it had to offer.
Campo Santa Margherita - pretty campo in Dorsoduro area, just a few minutes walk from the Al Sole hotel. This square was enlarged back in the 1800's by filling in the canals at its southern end. Many cafes and bars here and its a pleasant spot for a chat and people watching. It becomes even more lively at night, staying open later than most other places in Venice and seeing as the water buses operate late into the night its easy to get back to base. Just a short walk from Accademia.
It's amazing how much the water is a part of everyday life in Venice. The locals are so accustomed to it, that it doesn't seem to be an obstacle, but instead is something to celebrate and take pride in.
I don't know if it's not a done thing, or if the group I started to photograph were just not feeling very photogenic that day, anyway I was reprimanded for taking their photo.
Perhaps be more subtle about it than I was, when in doubt.
When heading to Venice in the late fall and winter take good rain gear. Low key colors keep you blending in.
A light pair of ploy pro or silk under wear fits nicly under your clothes and can make the cool rainy days much more enjoyable.
Throw 30 extra euros in your kit to buy a pair of rubber boots incase the town floods on the days you are there. They are avalible all over town. While I cannot justfy carring them around for a long trip. Without them on a flood day your activiy will be brought to a stand still. If you do not want to take them with you when you leave make a gift to some one just begining their vist in Venice.
