Venice
stayed at the Savoia & Jolanda Hotel which is located in the heart of the city next to Saint Mark's Square and over looking the canal to St George's Island.
. Outdoor terrace restaurant, 24-hour bar service and private banqueting room.

See my comments for Hotel Savoia and Jolanda. The Villa Igea is their sister hotel and the two are attached to each other (the Villa Igea is attached to the rear of the Savoia and Jolanda.
Unique Quality: See my section on the Savoia and Jolanda
Directions: San Marco
Located in Campo San Zaccaria which is a pretty little square with the most beautful church (which you MUST go and have a look inside).
What a fantastic hotel......the staff are friendly and helpful and make it a really pleasant stay.
For carnival time you have to book very early (we booked around 6 months in advance for 2003). For our 2004 trip we still tried to book very early but ended up staying in the Villa Igea (which is the sister hotel of the Savoia and Jolanda and is attached to the back of the main hotel as an annexe). However, you still check in and out, have your breakfast etc in the Savoia and Jolanda.
The Villa Igea is just as nice inside so either one would be great but you can't get the views of the lagoon from the Villa Igea.
One day I'd like to fork out for a room at the S&A with a view of the lagoon which is obviously much more expensive but worth every penny I'm sure.
Our twin, en-suite room worked out at about £60 each per person, per night (booked through one of the discount hotel booking websites on the Net) and included a fantastic buffet breakfast - Bacon, sauages, scrambled eggs, toast, cold meats, cerals, yoghurt, danish pastries, etc etc)
Unique Quality: The location is superb, overlooking the lagoon right on the Grand Canal.
It's 2 doors down from the Danieli, and only a couple of minutes walk from the Bridge of Sighs and St Marks Square.
All the main waterbus stops are just nearby so it's as central as it's possible to be.
Marco Polo airport is 30 minutes away by direct water taxi (expensive) or 1 hour away by Vaporetto which I think was about 10 Euros?? The vaporetto ride can be a bit cramped but isn't a bad journey and is vastly cheaper than a watertaxi.
If you fly to Treviso you have to get a connecting bus to Piazzale Roma and then a vaporetto to St Marks Square which is a real pain and not something I'll be doing again in a hurry.

From St Marks Square, walk along the Grand Canal across 2 (I vaguely recall) small bridges. You should pass the Danieli and it's next door but one. It has a big canopy outside over the outdoor part of the restaurant.
Impeccable service and a room fit for a princess, I highly recommend this hotel for its perfect location as well. The manager, Roberto, is the best!
Unique Quality: My room had brocade wallpaper, and Murano glass wall sconces and chandeliers.

I stayed at the Savoia & Jolanda Hotel which is located in the heart of the city next to Saint Mark's Square and over looking the canal to St George's Island.
The only complaint I had was that it was a little noisy at night from the streets.

Unique Quality: Expensive like everything in Venice, but with the same view than others much more expensive (and fashionable, of course).
You must ask for a room lookink to the "laguna", if possible try the third floor, rooms with a balcony.

The location is good, and the views are ok, but this place is truly a rip off. Other people have posted the same thing and I have to say they really ripped us off. We payed over $500 a night for a small room that was supposed to be a "suite". It was one small room with a tiny bathroom. Give me a break. I tried complaining, but the staff was rude and didn't care one bit. Then they had the nerve to try to charge me more than the price I reserved it for! There is basically NO SERVICE, rude staff, small and WAY OVERPRICED rooms, no amenities, and mediocre food.Don't be fooled by the location, its just not worth it. The positive reviewers here must be associated with the hotel, because I can't believe anyone that actually went and stayed there would have liked this place for the money you have to pay.
