At home in Venice
My mother organized everything. It looks like she paid around 2,000 Euros for a whole week in an apartment which accommodated the eight of us. It is a lot of money, but it boils down to 35 Euros per person per night, and it's Venice after all.
The apartment reminded me of the TV show "House Hunters International," blending the fancy and the impractical: we had a Doge's bonnet on hand, but no kitchen scissors. We ended up eating out at lunch, and picnicking on the likes of boiled chicken legs, cheese and grapes at night, which was very amusing.
The staff of Veniceapartment was incredibly helpful and courteous. We inundated them with emails and phone calls in French and in English, and they always responded promptly and accurately.

I got a double room with good price when I visited venice in summer 08
