venice to ljubljana?

by gvpaul68

Besy way to get to ljublijana? We arrive in Venice on May 1, 2010 at 9am. Worried that as this is a public holiday, we may have difficulty. One member said there was a bus at 2 pm, but i cannot find this. can anyone help?

I have just seen a web page showing bus journeys from MESTRE (mainland Venice) to Ljubljana.
http://www.ap-ljubljana.si/eng/vozni_eng.php?uIfr=1

That page shows one bus leaving Mestre at 17.10 (coming from originally Rome, Florence & Bologna) and arriving into Ljubljana at 20.30 on 1st May.

Don't know how you book it.

Looking at the options by road+rail the excellent German Railways web http://www.bahn.com/i/view/index.shtml gives as an option going by bus to Villach (Austria) from the main bus terminal at Venice called "Piazzale Roma" then at Villach take the intercity train to Ljublijana.
Times are shown for 1st May. leaving Piazzale Roma at 11.20 and reaching Villach at 14.50 then getting the train at 16.53 and reaching Ljublijana at 18.32

I wonder how many other options there are !

Travel Tips for Venice

The different views on the water

by KISSofJUDAS

San Marco square, Napoleonic gardens, Giudecca, Rialto bridge, are the quality that composed a character of this city. For to enter completely inside the heart of Venice, the best thing to do, is to cross the water way "the arteries" that it will bring directly to the center of its soul. There are scenes that you only can see it from the water.

Caffeine & Sugar Hit Heaven

One of the things I love about Italy, and Venice in particular, is that everywhere you look there are fabulous cafes and pasticceria's.

I am a sucker for an espresso and a small sweet treat, at least 2 maybe 3 times a day....helps to boost flagging energy levels whilst sight seeing...

There are some really great pasticceria's in Venice - we sampled a few in the San Marco area, and another great one very close to the train station. The hardest part is trying to decide on which sweet treat to sample!!

Horses of St. Mark

by nicolettart

Climb up to the top and you will see the real bronze horses inside, not outside the basilica. The horses were among the treasures looted by Napoleon, and eventually returned in 1815. The four horses are Venice's symbol of liberty.

Feeding the pigeons

by ruki

It is traditional to feed the pigeons on the square San Marco. The birds are very friendly and they will come up very quickly if you have a corn, wheat or something else. Very soon you will be covered of the pigeons. They will be on you shoulders, heads….and be careful

Tipping

by keeweechic

Tipping seems to be the norm I think. A 15% service charge is added to all restaurant bills, however it is customary to leave a small tip for good service. You are now required by law to obtain an official receipt when eating at restaurants A 15-18% service charge is added to hotel bills. When all-inclusive prices are quoted, the service charge is already included. It is customary to leave an additional tip even when the service charge is already included.
