Caserma Passalaqua

by Dmeulemans

Can you provide me with the address for Caserma Passalaqua? Thank you

Re: Caserma Passalaqua

You mean the old US Army Base? It looks like it was closed years ago...

Bill: Thank you....yes what was the street and approx location that it was on.
I was there in 1956-58 and visited again in 1975.

Re: Caserma Passalaqua

yes, closed and recently passed to municipality, that will use it for the nearby university...
Still need address?
ciao
Francesco

Thank you....yes, I would still like the address or main cross streets so I can find in on the satellite map.

Re: Caserma Passalaqua

I haven't found a stret address, but I did find an army website (which appears to be a forum), that locates the old base on a map, along with some old photos - see http://www.usarmygermany.com/Units/SETAF%20Units/USAREUR_SETAF%201.htm#Passa

Hmmmn, I am not sure if the circle on the map is accurate...the circle would put it on the north side of the river from the city center of Verona, but if you follow the Google link on that webpage, you'll see that it's at the intersection of Via Francesco Torbido and Viale Universita', which is southeast of the city center, just west of the Verona Porta Vescovo train station...Francesco, does that sound right?

Thank both of you so much....I thought it was north, and I know it was next to a large crematorium....

Re: Caserma Passalaqua

Did you look at the Google photo...does that match the layout you remember?

Yes, Bill, you got it!

Look here: http://tinyurl.com/5hexyv

The old Passalacqua, going probably to become a sort of University campus, is north from via Francesco Torbido (the grenn you see is the tob of the old venetian/austrian fortification) and east from Viale Università.

Quite a big complex, now nearly in the center of the city.

Ciao!
Francesco

Ooppss we were all writing together. Yes, there is the main Verona monumenta cemetery quite close. You see it as a big square just SW from the Passalacqua.

Re: Caserma Passalaqua

Thank you so very much to both mccalpin and effeti. You were both very helpful and I thank both of you for your help. You both live in a wonderful city and someday I hope to return for the third time. Dmeulemans

Sadly, I can't claim to live in Verona, but Francesco does and is a great ambassador for his home town (I lived in Rome myself, but Francesco still speaks to me anyway ;-) )

Travel Tips for Verona

City pavement Map

by sandysmith

Well this literally was a landmark! At either end of Via Mazzini which link Piazza Bra and Piazza delle Erbe, Verona's two main squares, are bronze maps set in the pavement. I didn't really notice them until towards the end of our stay but I thought they were well done! The arena is clearly seen and the river Adige snakes around the old town centre.

Romeo & Juliett - Juliett's home

by Martin_S.

What better place to take your wife, child, girlfriend or just a friend, but to the most famous love story every written. This folks is where it all started, at Juliett's home here in Verona. If you will look carefully at the bottom of the picture you will see the commeorative plaque. Very unimpressive on the outside, but then come on into the courtyard.

Piazza Bra - Arena

by croisbeauty

The interior of the Arena is very impressive. From the pit, one looks up at flight upon flight of giant size terraces, which sweep upwards in ever widening circles.
The pride which the locals of Verona take in this, the most famous of their monuments, is shown by the care lavished on the building..... Next performance, in July 2004, is opera "Aida", and the whole inside is suddenly very different.

Air planes

by croisbeauty

When you take the road from Verona to Vicenza you passes through several small places in the outskirts of the town. This interesting and funy scene can be seen on the terrace of the house in the place called Caldeiro. Not so bad idea placing an old airplane on the terrace.
