Help...cant find available lodging for June 27th!

by svanderbilt

Hello,
This is my first post on this great site! I am planning on taking the train from Venice and stay in Verona for one night to see the opera. We hope to take a 1/2 day wine tour and want to stay in the city (no car). My date is June 27th and the only availibity are these hotels: Please help me decide or give me other places you reccommend.

-Hotel Giulietta 220 E
-Hotel Accademia 350 E (too much $$)
-Hotel Bologna-got bad reviews.

Help!!!!
Stephanie

See this site: www.booking.com
There are many offers for the night of june 27, staring from 55 euro.
One of my favourite hotels in Verona is the Maxim (4 stars, close to Porta Vescovo train station): on Booking it sells a double room/breakfast for 125 euro.

Hope it helps, enjoy Verona and the Opera!

I also suggest you look at www.venere.com

Venere and booking.com are both reliable sites (I use both regularly), with honest guest reviews.

I stayed at the Bologna - we got a special winter rate - 100 euros plus breakfast - and it couldn't be faulted for position - right by the arena.

The room was fine and the breakfast was very good. Just the staff were rude and indifferent. But I put that down to end of season blues.

We stayed at Hotel Torcolo 2 minute walk from the arena and are returning this year for my wife's 50th birthday.

I stayed at this small and reasonable B&B that is within walking distance (although not super close)

Travel Tips for Verona

NEW ARCHEOLOGICAL WALK opening this year

by agalta

this beautiful ancient roman theater complex is to be thoroughly explored... there's a little museum of roman statues and various artifacts in/around a most lovely cloister/garden above it and now they just opened an ARCHEOLOGICAL WALK that takes you all the way to the top of the hill where you can enjoy marvellous views of the city... very worth going on a sunny day!
(ps-I'm not sure if it was just a partial opening now... but if it is the rest should be opening any time now) teatro romano
museo archeologico
regaste redentore 2
tel. 045 8000360
open every day except monday from 9 to 19 (till 15 during the summer theater festival)

Four Saints- detail

by Azhut

Via Mazzini and Piazza Brà like Piazza delle erbe contains many historical monuments. A singular monument that you can see in both the Squares is an ancient column surmounted by an aedicule which contains four statues representing some saints. I can’t explain what is the real function of this aedicule because I cannot find an explication on my books but I suppose it was built to have the protection of these saints.

explore the medieval ARENA...

by Krystynn

explore the medieval ARENA and the area surrounding it. O.K., that's me standing just a stone's throw away from the Arena and feeling generally under-dressed. I mean, you should see how these Veronese dress. Man, I thought they were all models from some Giorgio Armani fashion show. Really.

Giardino Giusti

by croisbeauty

The garden is located in Via Giardino Giusti 2. You can easily reach it by bus nr. 72 - "Pollicino", stop Via Carducci. The other options are by foot, across the Ponte Nuovo and then by Via Carducci, or across Ponte Pietra and then turn right in Via Santa Chiara.
The garden is open every day from 1st of April to September 30/from 9 am to 8 pm
from 1st of October to March 31/from 9 am to 7 pm
tel. 045/8034029
admission € 5,00

San Zeno - the stuatue of the Saint

by croisbeauty

In the left apse stands an impressive statue of Saint Zeno. It is made of polychrome marble by an unknown sculptor of the early 14th century, and is much loved by the people of Verona. The sculpture is known as "The Luughing Saint".
