travel from Verona to Pisa
by JerryG999
I will be traveling from Verona to Pisa on 18 May. Does anyone know of a reliableand relatively inexpensive car service whom I can hire for two persons?

relatively inexpensive there is the train, surely faster then a private car as it's nearly impossible weekday doing the trip in 3h. May, 18th will be tuesday.

I agree 100%. This is a trip of 300 kilometers (nearly 200 miles), and there won't be any 'inexpensive' car service making that trip...and even if you want to go only one way, they'll probably charge you enough to cover the driver's return to Verona.
There are certainly reliable services to hire if money is no object, but when you consider that the 70 kilometers from Rome to Civitavecchia is at least 100 euro ($130USD) by car service, multiply that by 2 or 3 or 4 then add the 22.30 euro in tolls and estimated 30.00 euro in petrol (both numbers courtesy of www.viamichelin.com), and the train has got to be the bargain of the week...;-)

Entirely agree.......Italian trains are safe, comfortable and easy to use. They are a perfectly usual form of transport, used by everyone, and will certainly cost far, far less than a hugely expensive private transfer.
Look at

for train times, details and fares in English.
Verona> Pisa takes around 4 hours, with changes (easy to manage), costing from 36.90 euro one-way.
You do not need to book your tickets in advance, unless you wish to do so. You ca buy just before travel, or a day or so beforehand if you wish.
Travel Tips for Verona
Off Main Street
by alza
Via Mazzini is lined with shops of all kinds, lots of food, gelaterie, and it's quite classy. Every woman looks like a Renaissance painting, there's an atmosphere of sophistication here.
The pic is a small street that looked enticing, off via Mazzini. There was a great, modern Internet Café Club steps later on Main. Very wild decor. I got there for early evening, when everyone is out arm-in-arm for a walk. Lots of people but not at all touristy.
i guess via Mazzini is what we'd call Main Street here.
End of the line

Fascinating. There it was. The wall. Going nowhere, the river Adige seemingly stopping its progress. Did it ever go further? It looks like it may have but the information was not forthcoming.
Certainly part of the Scaligeri fortifications from the 14th century I assume they hang over the river to deter attackers. Rather obvious when you think about it!
San Tomaso Cantuariense Church
by Azhut
The church of San Tomas Cantuariense was built in 1316 as a temple consacrated to San Thomas from Canterbury. This church built in romanesque style has a wonderful rose-window built in 1493 by Cristoforo Lanfranchini.
Casa di Giulietta
by croisbeauty
This, in my opinion ugly building, is a home of Guilietta. Only the tragic legend of two lovers made it so interesting, otherwise you could pass by it without even noticed it. Many tourists from all over the world come to Verona which is famous as the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Juliet's house is in Via Cappello, not far from Piazza delle Erbe. It is a tall building, which probably dates back to the 13th century, with a mellow brick facade.
San Zeno
by croisbeauty
The eye f the visitor is immediately captured by the great engraved rose window, called the wheel of fortune, by Briolotto.
The Porch was designed by Maestro Nicolo (1138). Simple and elegant architectural structure, resting on two styloforus lions.
The Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore ranks with the Amphitheatre as one of Verona's most important monuments.
