Has anyone here explored the VALPOLICELLA WINE ROADS?

by bettyo70

Just wanted to hear about anyone's exploration/drive through the Valpolicella Wine Route?

Is it very hilly and scenic (like in Umbria and Tuscany)?

Any recommendations of wineries would be great... we prefer reds.

Cheers! / Cin-Cin!

Thanks, cgf!

I was also wondering if anyone has their own photos of this area that they took while driving the Valpolicella Wine Road.

Cheers!

Yes it's hilly and scenic. I've not driven along it but seen the region from the train.

If you put "Valpolicella wine road" in the search box above here on VT (chosing "Keywords") you will find some tips like this:

Travel Tips for Verona

Verona Card

by BruceDunning

This is the best value for touring sites. For the cost of about 13 Euro for three days, you can take in all the major sites, like the arena, Torre Lamberti, Juliet's house, teatro Roma (great), and the churches and museums. Individually, I estimate the cost for each site total may be around 30-40 Euro. YOu can purchase on line, and then at the first site get a card that they earmark after visits. CArds cannot be purchased on line, and the information center does not issue cards. You get issued a permanent card at edicolas, and maybe museums.

Bicycle lanes

by Nemorino

Though you often have to ride on the street with the automobiles, Verona does have some bicycle lanes, such as this one on the Ponte Nuovo (New Bridge).

Second photo: When a bicycle lane crosses a street it is sometimes clearly marked with red paint, but only sometimes.

Third photo: Like a lot of other cities, Verona has a tendency to mark its bicycle lanes rather inconspicuously in cases where cyclists are expected to use part of the sidewalk. Here on Corso Porto Nuovo the markings are so pale that pedestrians often overlook them. If you enlarge this photo you might just be able to make out the yellow markings which show that this is a bicycle lane in both directions.

Fourth and fifth photos: More cyclists on the Ponte Nuovo (New Bridge).

Verona Balconies

by sandysmith

Although Verona is remembered by many for the balcony of Juliet's house, the city has so many other balconies worth admiring - everywhere you looked up there appeared to be one, so to me Verona was the "City of Balconies".

Piazza delle Erbe

by croisbeauty

Piazza delle Erbe is more or less where the Forum of the Roman town was. The Square is one othe most pitoresque in Italy. It epitomises the character and atmosphere of Verona, with it delightful variety of styles ot the surrounding buildings and its historically famous and centrally placed statues. Thank God, the vegetable and fruit market was finally removed from the square.

Marry me in Verona!

by effeti

not a proposal! Mmm and not really a "local" custom but I though that placing it under the "to dos" was a little too much-

Anyway, up to the 2009 spring the civil weddings took place nearly only at the so-called Juliet's tomb.

Now the municipality opened some other more charming places to host the wedding of people wanting to tie the knot in the home town of Rome & Juliet. One of them is the Juliet's house. Not the historical one, but still a very charming and romantic place.

See all the details in the official municipality site at the website section below.

If you decide, probably a wedding planner could be a wise idea...
