Giulietta
by danmcf
The original story of Romeo & Juliet was written by Luigi da Porto of Vicenza in the 1520's, this is where Shakespeare got his inspiration. Lover's (and tourists too) from all over the world come to get a glimpse of the balcony that Romeo supposedly climbed to visit his beloved Juliet.
In reality though, the Casa di Giulietta at #27 via Cappello is a restored 13th century inn. Besides the balcony, there is a statue representing Giulietta in the inner courtyard. The statue, by Nereo Costantini, is much photographed. It seems that everyone wants to place their hand on Juliet's breast for their picture. Although the rest of the statue exhibits a weathered appearance, her breast is nevertheless nice and shiny due to the constant fondling.

I can add here information to this "ordinary" street scene thanks to croisbeauty who helped me to fill my not existing knowledge about history of Verona buildings. Thanks a lot! This the street crossing building is called Porta Borsari and it was a city gate from the Roman period, so it´s already around 2000 years old!! In every street at every corner you find little motor bikes, the most commun transport medium in whole Italy I believe.
Castlevecchio
by sandysmith
Castlevecchio, which stands alongside the Adige River, is one of the city's most interesting looking buildings. It houses an art museum with works of Titian and Rubens.
May 2006 update : Parts of the towers are under wraps for restoration and with adverts on rather spoils their current appearance.
The Castle of Giulietta
by croisbeauty
This is the castle where Giulietta was born and lived. It is situated on the tophill above the town of Montecchio Maggiore, which lies in between Verona and Vicenza.
The castle, or better say, what was left of it, is in a very poor conditions. Do not visit it in case you belive in the legendary love story because you'll be very disappointed.
