Bus route number

by Neil7948

Hiya. We are visiting Verona in August this year, staying at the Hotel Italia on Via Goffredo Mamali and would like to discover which, if any, local buses take us to Castel San Pietro. We are aged 60 -70+,so the nearest drop off point would be great. I know there is a guided tour bus, but through experience a couple of years ago, this bus is full, and difficult to rejoin at the various drop off points. If you could supply route numbers and times arriving at the castel around mid day. Thank you
Regards, Neil

Bus number 71 stops about 100 metres from the Hotel Italia and takes you to Via Castel San Pietro. During the week this bus runs frequently.

Uh, not really, not now.
The actual route of the 71 is this
http://amt.atv.verona.it/accessibile/linee/orari.asp?t=&l=71&m=2&st=&p=e&i=13&f=14&v=2

While going for a while in the right direction, before starting to climb the hill it turns left in Via Mameli, going up a different route.

Look at the directions to the nearby camping:

Not that I use the buses on that part of the town.

It seems no other bus gets closer. And the hill is quite steep. Easier, maybe, to go to the roman theater and go up the stairs from there. Shorter, at least.

Otherwise, if climbing the hill it is too tiring for someone of you ... better take a taxi.

Ciao

Travel Tips for Verona

Relaxing park

by Sjalen

At Piazza Francesco Viviani near Piazza del Erbe, you will find Verona's cheerfully yellow main post office. This has a great little park next to it where you can rest your feet in the shade for a while and look at the Garibaldi monument. There is also a water pump. Just watch out for the pigeons!

Roman Gateways I

by sandysmith

Verona is a wonderful old city to explore and many roman remains can be seen. The Borsari gate was one of the main entrances to the old Roman city - it was originally called Jupiter's gate. Shame about the traffic today but try to get a look at it. It is beautifully lit up at night too - and more peaceful way of enjoying it! Roman gates were actually a building witha central courtyard. The stone facing of a facade is all that remains today - but its such an unusual sight as you head into the old town - it leads into Piazza delle Erbe (opposite end to Via Mazzini)

A little bit of Egypt?

by sandysmith

At times it looked as if Piazza Bra was turning into Egypt - don't worry its not permanent, it was just all the stage props for the opera performances. Made you realise how big they were! Most of these props were from the opera Aida so it was interesting to see.

Piazza delle Erba - Casa Mazzanti

by croisbeauty

On the north-east side of the square, opposite to the Domus Mercatorum, is the picturesque Casa Mazzanti, decorated with frescoes of mythological subjects by A. Cavalli in the 16th century.
Next to the Casa Mazzanti is the Domus Naova.

St Valentine, R & J, love....

by effeti

As homeland of Romeo & Juliet, Verona celebrates St. Valentine in a special way.... See the central shopping street of Via Mazzini full of red hearts decoratios for Feb, 14th 2006.
In those days, there is "Schermi d'Amore" a "sentimental and melo international film festival".

Of course, every Feb, 14th the "Dear Juliet" award is given to the best love letter sent to Juliet.
Yes, load of letters are sent every year to Juliet, and a few secretaries (no joke, it's for real!) read them all, often reply giving advice.... and select the best for the finals of the love letetrs award!.

See the above link for more! So, are you a real romantic soul? Write to Juliet!
