london to verona

by rolinuk

im getting a little confused reading different suggestions to get around the area. whats the best way to fly from london to verona. i'd like to stay in verona and travel to venice padua etc. But how do i get there in the first place?

www.flghtmapping.com will give you UK carriers to all airports.

In this case I suspect the cheapest way may be to find a flight to Venice Marco Polo or Venice Treviso, then take the train to Verona.

Look at www.whichbudget.com and www.harefares.com for all European budget carriers and their routes.

www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html will give you train times, details and fares in English.

Mestre> Verona takes around an hour.

Treviso>Verona takes around an hour and a half.

If you fly to Marco Polo you can get the bus from the airport to Mestre, and get the onward train from there.

From Treviso you can either get the train at Treviso or from Venice S. Lucia (if you want to see Venice).

Leics gave you the chepest, but the best way to arrive here is the BA2596 flight from Gatwick to the VRN Catullo airport. Once there, a 15 minutes taxi (or shuttle bus) will bring you to the center of Verona.

Well, the "best" way is to rent a corporate jet, equip it with the finest foods and wines, and staff it with either beautiful or virile young members of the opposite sex (if you're so inclined)...but maybe this isn't what you meant ;-)

Note that Ryanair (at least) flies from London Stanstead to "Verona-Brescia"...like most of Ryanair's destinations, although they say "Verona", they mean the airport at Brescia, not the main airport at Verona...but even the airport at Brescia is closer than Venice...although, to be fair, the train system is so reliable and cheap in Italy that the "closest" airport should be only part of your calculations.

I'm with Effeti on this one. I fly backwards and forwards to Verona on a regular bais. If you live anywhere near London, British Airways as the simplest solution. London Gatwick directly to Valerio Catullo Airport.
Ryanair to Brescia is a possibility but don't be fooled by their on-line prices.
You pay for every piece of luggage, the first piece costing £30.00 each way, then they hit you £10.00 booking fee, each way. If you want priority boarding there is another charge and so on.What starts off looking like a bargain flight can end up costing you more than the British Airways flight.

But do check out the Easyjet fares to Marco Polo before you decide. Easyjet is not as ...erm......'grasping' as Ryanair, imo.

"im getting a little confused reading different suggestions"

Now we know WHY you're confused...even for us, the answer requires some research on near versus far airports, discount versus legacy airlines, time of day, lead time to the trip - all these things affect the cost and availability of transportation...and we haven't even started talking about the comfort thereof...

Ciao' a tutti!

Ciao Bill.... e ciao a tutti.

Ok, so no private Lear Jet full of playmates of the month (and maybe a magnum bottle of Amarone?) this time.
We will have to cope.

Travel Tips for Verona

Verona is one of the most...

Verona is one of the most charming cities in Italy. It’s a pleasure to walk along Adige River and wander through the streets. You find here ancient arena, medieval churches, a castle and the house of Juliet of course. I love to sit outside in Piazza Bra with my cup of coffee or glass of wine, enjoy I’m here and do nothing.

Go to the Scala's Tombs. They were Verona's answer to the Medici family's relationship with Florence. My pictures of them are all facing sideways, so here is a shot of Dante Aligheri's statue that stands only feet from where the tombs are located.

The arena

by iandsmith

Beyond the double walls lies one of Italy's most famous attractions, the elliptical arena surrounded by 44 tiers that housed the Romans brutal blood lust.
Fortunately, some of the world doesn't yearn to see other people put to the sword on a regular basis and, for almost the last 100 years, the arena has been commonly used for concerts.
Testimony to its popularity is the tourist stall in the foreground - need I say more!

La Benedizione dei Cani

by giampiero6

I thought this was kind of goofy and funny. Piazza Bra...the largest Piazza in Verona, where the Arena is located was taken over one day by a bunch of dog owners, which I thought was weird until I noticed that this Friar Tuck of a fellow was blessing the dogs. Hilarious...

Opera season in Arena

by croisbeauty

The most scenic opera to watch is, by all means, Aida by G. Verdi.
This what you see on the picture are the parts of requisits for opera AIDA, just in front of arena. While performing the opera, a lot of people stands outside of arena or seating in the nearby cafe-brs and listening to the music.
