Nice hotel near the train station
The main reason why I chose to stay at Novo Hotel Rossi was because of its location - since we were traveling by train, I wanted to stay close to the station so I wouldn't have to drag my suitcase around for too long. This hotel turned out to be a great little find - it was just a short walk away from the station, but at the same time it was within walking distance from the historic part of the city. Our room was quite comfortable, and the staff was friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice - pastries, cereals, cheese, ham and yogurt along with fresh coffee. The only thing that was missing from the room was a safe to put our passports and money, and although there was an Internet connection available, it was a bit expensive (however, the staff was nice enough to check our flight status for us). Also, there isn't much in the area in terms of food or restaurants so if you want snacks it's best to stop at one of the downtown markets. But as long as you don't mind being a little out of the way, I'd say Novo Hotel Rossi is a really good place to stay in Verona.

I booked this hotel at fairly short notice through the City of Verona Booking Office (www.cav.vr.it), which at that point had a better selection and better prices than any of the commercial booking websites.
I still ended up paying an average of 85 Euros per night for a single room with breakfast (more than in Paris, for instance), but that seems to be a good price for Verona in the opera season.
The hotel is only 200 meters from the railway station, and they have free bicycles for the guests. The breakfast buffet was fine, and the people at reception were very friendly and helpful.
Second photo: Here are a few of the bikes in the hotel basement. They have about twenty bikes altogether, but not all of them are in good condition. I tried three or four before I found one I liked.

Very very good price!
NHR is very good hotel, recently refurnished and convenientely located1,5km from the historical centre.
Situated only 200 metres from Porta Nuova Railway station, it can be easily reached from the A4 Motorway exit Verona Sud.
The hotel has 38 rooms, private bathroom, air-conditioning, mini-bar, Sat-TV and internet connection.
Unique Quality: The NHR has an ample parking included in the room charges and garage available on reguest.
The double room, very comfortable, cost me 77,00 euros and it is very good price for three stars hotel in Verona.
Yes, I do strongly recommend this hotel

HELP! Looking for INEXPENSIVE (but not scary) hotel or B&B in Verona for one night on September 18!
Hi Everybody,
We are looking to stay one night in someplace clean and safe (does not have to be fancy) on the evening of September 18 (Saturday).
A lot of the lower-end places we checked out are filled up.
Does anyone have suggestions? Could be a small hotel or bed-and-breakfast, but definitely within the city.

You could try the Hotel Bologna(bed and breakfast).
I've stayed there a few times, and found it very pleasant.

Hotel Torcolo has good rates (for being just off the Piazza Ba)

I think it is not on the main hotel circuits, but tend to fill up often. Especially if there is some sort of show at the Arena

It looks like we'll be staying in an "agriturismo" in the hills above Verona instead of staying in the city-center.
If anyone has any must-do recommendations for Verona, definitely give me a shout here.
We're going dancing at "Alter Ego" and maybe "Dorian Gray" in the evening.

We ended up driving to and staying at an agriturismo in the hills above Verona, which is probably not what you're looking for.
Some options near Verona's train station:
1) HOTEL MARTINI - Via Giulio Camuzzoni 2, 37139 Verona
2) Hotel PICCOLO - Via Giulio Camuzzoni 3/B, 37139 Verona
2) NOVO HOTEL ROSSI - 2 Via Delle Coste, 37138 Verona
